Roskachestvo – about scams on payment information leakage

Scammers advertise fake services for checking compromised bank cards. Bank card holders are invited to “verify” the safety of their data on fake websites. In fact, users can hand over their payment data to fraudsters themselves.

After the mass media reported that cybercriminals had leaked the data of more than 100,000 American credit cards, fraudulent sites started to appear on the web. They offer users to check their card details against the leaked database. Such services are actively advertised in social networks and Telegram channels. Advertising mailing affects not only owners of communities and groups about finance, but also users who are as far from banking terms as possible. It means that everyone can fall for this fishing rod.

Fake sites have a similar structure: the cardholder is asked to enter his card details, supposedly to check whether they have fallen into the hands of an intruder. The service uses the most cynical approach. After a user enters his or her payment data, he or she passes it on to fraudsters and the card can be charged off immediately.

Sergey Kuzmenko, senior digital product testing specialist at Roskachevo.

“Roskachevo reminds users that there is no single official service to check for compromised bank cards! All such services on the net are fraudulent. Do not enter card data on suspicious sites or dictate them during a phone conversation with a potential fraudster,” says the firm

Your payment data can also fall into the hands of fraudsters if you use a free and unpopular VPN service. There is a risk that your card data will be compromised once the service is activated.
