Rock jaw Resonate in-ear headphones: British Chameleon hybrids.

Will Brexit be good for hybrid headphones?? The question is certainly interesting, because the new British dual-driver hybrids from ROCK JAW AUDIO may be out of free circulation on the European market. But we, I think, will only benefit from this. Our audiophiles will no longer be surprised by headphones that use both armature and dynamic drivers in their design. There were cases when the manufacturers managed to squeeze a few armature and dynamic drivers into the case of in-canal headphones, but this density of drivers does not guarantee a perfect sound. But the new ROCK JAW AUDIO hybrids are not only perfectly built, they have on board a pair of drivers in the ear 1 speaker and 1 armature receiver and a very decent sound with taste adjustment, and at a very reasonable price. Check it out with me.

Thank you XChesserAudio for the sample for listening

Appearance and package

The headphones come in a small black cardboard box with a transparent window – as if “from under the ice” a pair of ears and colorful interchangeable acoustic filters with threads are looking at us – there are three pairs in total. On the back there is a description of the color filters: what to expect and what to do with them…

If you open the box, live you’ll see small headphones, removable filters, and several pairs of silicone and foam earpieces pressed into the compressed panel. The bottom of the box hides a detachable cable with a headset, a clothes clip and a soft cloth pouch for storing the headphones.

The Rockjaw Resonate themselves look attractive. Build quality, like Caesar’s wife, beyond suspicion – it is written, by the way, that made in Great Britain. Very similar, extremely well made. The color is black with a white logo on the back. Soft, removable cable – with MMCX connector, fabric braided, with remote and 3.5mm jack on the end. Plugs in clearly, no wiggles or spins, I think there is no disconnect.

I used the classic “down wire” fit. The Resonate sits very snugly in my ear.

Removable sound filters are tightly drawn to the headphone threads, the color for every taste: yellow, green and blue. Due to their diminutive size, I want to warn you: be vigilant when removing them from the foam material.

To fix it securely, without a single gap, the kit provides small rubber rings – fit them to the threads and start screwing the sound drive into the case – the rings will work as gaskets. Just don’t lose them! I extracted these mini blobs by hooking them with the point of a pencil, and then carefully pulled them onto the filter-soundway – ugh, delicate work!

By the way, the filters are colored like Easter eggs for a reason: they have different settings for the headphones, and we are going to talk about it in details.

Description

Sound

Listening was done with MyST DAC 1866OCU V.2, iFi micro idsd black label, Lotoo PAW Gold, iBasso DX200, and Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge smartphone.

My ears are great with all sources, including my smartphone.

The green filter is the most bassy, energy, as the manufacturer says. I wouldn’t say it’s for bassheads, no. Low frequencies are represented here in a reasonable, though predominant, amount. The detail and elaboration of the rest of the frequency range is preserved. The middle part is also pleasant and musical, only the high frequencies become a little bit more modest, which I personally very much like.

The blue sound tube somewhat mutes the bass fervor and adds high frequencies, which in turn makes the sound airy and emotional, while not pushing the midrange into the background. The blue one is called emotion. To my ear it is the most musical filter and for all the emotionality it doesn’t sound obtrusive. Although I am not a fan of the V-frequency response, in this case I even liked this sonic tweak.

The yellow filter is not neutral, it makes the whole picture in one band, without canceling the exuberance of colors. Although the amount of treble and treble increases a bit. In general, the yellow filter has some balance of frequencies, but it seemed to me that on some tracks the ears sound too obtrusive and bright. Manufacturer

Labeled the yellow color as fusion. Who knows what they’re trying to say??

Of course, the difference of colored filters is not so global, but they really work, making a subtle taste adjustment. I think the Rockjaw Resonate headphones turned out very well. With filters it turns out that in one box come three sounds – twist and turn as you like, tune to your taste and to different music styles.

To be honest, I liked this model. It doesn’t warp your ears with distortion, and it sounds very decent. The manufacturer, clearly, worked seriously, not only with the design, but also with the sound delivery.

Conclusions

Very comfortable and pleasant in every way ears. Despite the fact that these are “not my sound,” I nevertheless got a lot of positive vibes from the Rockjaw Resonate. I even think to buy them, let them serve as a headset for my smartphone. Sometimes there are moments when you are waiting for an urgent call, but “I feel lonely without music..”That’s where they come in handy.

Although I have bigger options for serious players, the Rockjaw Resonate will play quite well with a smartphone. Plus, there’s sound tuning for different genres, quality construction, materials, and a pretty good kit. Of course I would like to hold a hard case instead of a cloth bag. Although at this price let’s not grumble: you can buy the Rockjaw Resonate for about 10,900 roubles in America. I think this price tag is quite adequate for the current moment.

Beautiful sound with fine-tuning through removable acoustic filters/sounds, good build quality, kit although the hard case is of course jammed , price.

Will not suit those who like flat monitor sound, although some would argue with this statement.

These Rock jaw Resonate in-ear headphones sound intriguing, but I’m curious to know more about their “British Chameleon hybrids” feature. Can you please explain what makes them hybrids and how this specifically impacts the audio experience?
