Rock Jaw Alfa Genus V2 in-ear headphones: music comes in gold, silver and black

While Brexit is up in the air, let us continue to get acquainted with the British brand Rockjaw. My choice this time fell on the new chameleons – Alfa Genus V2, made on the basis of a dynamic radiator with the possibility of sound tuning. As in the case with previous Chameleon Resonate models that I recently heard in the following review, the current model can also make a good sound at a very favorable price. Let’s not make a long speech, let’s take out the package and play music..

Thank you to XChesserAudio for providing a sample for listening

Appearance and package

The headphones arrived in a compact black and blue box with a square window that looks out over the earpiece drop, as well as several silicone attachments and a 3.5mm angled jack. Below the window it looks like the model name shouts in big white letters, then a tuning inscription in a smaller one and at the bottom there is a handsome brand logo in blush.

The back of the package also provides an overview of the contents. So, we can immediately see the acoustic filters of different colors and the second drop of the headphone.

We take the foam block out of the translucent packaging, and squeeze out the whole set one by one: the headphones, three pairs of interchangeable acoustic filters of different colors one is already screwed into the ears at the factory . There is also a soft cloth pouch for storing the headphones, six pairs of tips 3 silicone single-flange, 1 pair of double-flange, and 2 pairs of foam and a clothes clip for attaching the cable to your clothes.

The Rockjaw Alfa Genus V2 looks quite traditional. Material – metal, I think it is aluminum, cylindrical shape, no complaints.

Black cable length of 1.2 meters, the right side is a microphone with start pause button.

For sound adjustment, as in the case of the Rockjaw Resonate, is responsible for three pairs of removable filters-sound pickups:

Silver – increases the amount of bass “Enhanced bass”.

Black – Reduces the amount of bass, increases the high frequency range and the upper midrange “Treble”.

Gold is the most balanced “Natural”. Like, the Golden Mean!

Anyway, to these British chameleons the hint on our proverb fits as never before: For taste and color… choose your own authority.

Okay, let’s go listen!

Sound

Listening was performed on MyST DAC 1866OCU V.2, iFi micro idsd black label, Lotoo PAW Gold, iBasso DX200, and Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge smartphone.

My ears are very good friends with all sources, including my smartphone.

In general, the sound of Alfa Genus V2 is a bit easier than the older hybrid brother, but it’s implemented just as intelligently, which is facilitated by adjusting the sound to your taste.

The silver filter makes the sound dense and bassy. The bass is very solid, with a solid foundation, but the midrange frequencies do not suffer, they are served smoothly and floppily. High frequencies are just a little restrained, which disposes to long-lasting listening to music with an accompanying sense of buzz.

Black filter has a more refined supply. The bass is much less in this case, but it is presented with better control. Middle frequencies stay about the same, but the upper midrange and treble are emphasized, resulting in a sound more open, detailed. This burst leads to a little sharpness, which I personally quickly felt “tired of the sun”..

The gold filter has the most balanced sound. Compositions are smooth, even, without any clear predominance in any register, with very good details for the dynamic model. And in general the picture looks very musical.

I liked the results best when paired with the gold and black filters. Although I think that there are some people who prefer all the gold filters to modest silver. As you know, “for every taste and every color…”.

Conclusions

Very nice ears. The Alfa Genus V2 is something of a balance of quality, convenience, and price. Another big plus for the ears is that they are a good match with my smartphone, and here you have a microphone on the right wire.

In America you can buy Rockjaw Alfa Genus V2 for about 4 100 Dollars. I think this price tag is quite adequate for the current moment.

The sound can be adjusted to your liking, good build quality, price.

For the price, no.

These Rock Jaw Alfa Genus V2 in-ear headphones seem to offer a wide range of color options such as gold, silver, and black. However, I’m curious to know if there are any other factors I should consider apart from color when deciding between these options? Are there any differences in sound quality, durability, or other features? Your insights would be greatly appreciated!
