Review of the Pioneer SE-MJ512 headphones – W

To begin with – when you open the blister pack be careful, because you can cut yourself. Taking it in our hands. Nice color plastic, matte glossy metal ear cushion decor, no complaints about the quality of plastic molding and assembly. The headband is a little bit thin and seems to be a bit flimsy, but I’m sure it’s just an illusion. So it is, when sliding it to the working position I made sure of it, because the fixation of telescopic legs of the headband is quite tough and you have to exert effort. Actually not surprising – Pioneer will never hurt itself with such trivialities.

Headphones

Ergonomics:

Putting it on your head. Three sensations at the same time. Very light, almost weightless the claimed weight – 106 grams . Some pressure on the top of the head, not for nothing the headband seemed a little thin. In-ear fit is not very tight, which is justified, because the ear cushions are round and small, respectively fit over the ear and not on the entire surface of the ear. Here if you overdo the clamping force for better soundproofing, you can already achieve discomfort from wearing in minutes. And so it’s easy to walk, they don’t dangle on your head, you can’t miss a car horn or a shout, and “the music was playing…”.

Sound:

Here’s what we are promised in the stingy lines of numbers: sensitivity – 103 dB more than enough, because from the minimum of 20 dB audible to the average person to possible for a more or less long exposure to 120 dB the difference is somewhat smaller Playable frequency band – from 11 Hz to 25 000 Hz I don’t know about sound pressure level, where 11 Hz can exist, but I consider it as a promise to reproduce at least 30 Hz without roll-off of the AFC maximum power – 500 mW not “awfully much”, but quite enough, though not excessively, but better not to abuse the volume in order to avoid fatal distortions . Complements this “dry numbers” with the non-serious phrase with the promise of “high sound quality”. Let’s see.

Turn on. The overall sound character I would define as “delicately averaged”. Tonal balance is rather shifted to the upper middle, the sound character is “warm”, “bodily”, without much tracing of high-frequency details and overtones in the lower part of the range. The stage is somewhat narrowed and “sits” strictly on the head. When listening to “heavy” multi-layered music it tires a little, especially when you increase the volume, but with modern electronic formats – quite fun and “unloaded”.

Conclusion:

“PioneerSE-MJ512 -W” may or may not please you, but it will be almost a matter of aesthetic choice, because paired with a smartphone or a player they do their job well, without pathos, actually – not expecting you to applaud either. Remembering the promise of “high sound quality” I can safely say that at least you will get good sound for your money.
