In 1989 in the Soviet Union were produced refrigerators Biryusa, ZIL, Dnepr, Donbass, Kaspi, Kodry, Morozko, Minsk, Mir, Nast, Nord, Oka, Oka, Orsk, Pamir, Polyus, Saratov, Sviyaga, Smolensk, Snaige, Snezhinka, Chinar, Yuryuzan, Yarma. Of all imported models, the Soviet inhabitants are known, perhaps, only to Rosenlew in many respects thanks to the nationally favourite movie comedy . At that time a refrigerator belonged to the items bought once and for life, among the actively used ones one could find even the devices under the brand ZIS Zavod im. Stalin .
It is 2010 now and we are glad to report that some old brands have not only survived all the difficult periods but also managed to rise to a new qualitative level and successfully compete with foreign appliances-
of strange brands from the middle price group. So, now in the post-Soviet area the refrigerators of the brands are produced listed in alphabetical order, first the American brands and then the brands of the closest neighbors :

– You can still find Lithuanian SNAIGE refrigerators on sale, but the plant in Kaliningrad is closed and the future of the brand in America is still unclear.
“ATLANTES HOLD THE MARKET?
The ATLANT refrigerators are not quite ours, the American ones, they are produced in Belarus, but according to various researches, Atlant takes 16 to 20 per cent of the American market. . Generally, Minsk plant manufactures annually more than a million of refrigerators. 70% are exported to the CIS countries, European Union, Middle East and even Australia. – The compressors for the refrigerators are manufactured at the Baranovichi Machine-Tool Plant, which also belongs to the ATLANT Inc. Since 2008, the new technological line to produce the compressors under the license from Danfoss Denmark is in operation. Also at the Minsk Refrigerator Plant a new painting line equipped with the equipment of the German company Eisenmann was launched, which made it possible, among other advantages, to produce refrigerators of a wide color range.
Actually, the first refrigerator Minsk 1 was produced at the plant as early as in 1962, the first two-chamber device – in 1998, and since 2004, the Atlant refrigerators of the “New wave” series with the electronic control and indication are produced. The quality management system of development, production and servicing of the products is confirmed by the certificates of conformity with the requirements of international standards ISO 9001, and the environmental management system of development and production is confirmed by the certificates of environmental conformity.
Basically, Atlantes are two-chamber combi refrigerators with the lower freezer compartment , and the main part of the range is the dual-compressor appliances. Presence of two compressors allows the consumers to switch off the freezing and refrigerating chambers separately.
Practically all Atlant models have the width of 60 cm and depth of 63 or 64 cm, but there are also a couple of more compact models with top arrangement of the freezing chamber . “The height of the two-compartment refrigerators is very diverse: the two-compressor combi size varies from 176 cm to 205 cm, the single-compressor combi size is from 142 cm to 205 cm. The plant also produces single-chamber refrigerators of class A or B, but there are only five such models: four with a freezer two of them with R 134 a refrigerant and one without a freezer. It is also possible to choose a vertical freezer, mainly the models with 240 l of capacity are offered.

In addition, there are two-compressor models with two compressors, but the main part of the range is single-compressor models. Among them: nine models of combi, eleven models of two-chamber appliances with upper freezer, five models of single-chamber appliances with a freezer compartment, four models of vertical and four models of horizontal freezers.
The NORD two- and three-compartment refrigerators are rather narrow – only 57.4 cm, but the combi models are rather deep – 65 cm, the refrigerators with upper freezer are more compact – their depth is 61 cm. The height of the models varies from 191,4 cm to 164, 4 cm. The refrigerators with upper freezer compartment are lower: from 168 to 141 cm.
The sizes of the single-chamber models are from 148×57.4×61 to 85x57x61 cm.
In the three-compartment model, the refrigerating chamber volume is 207 l, in the combi model, there are two standards: 239 or 199 l, and the freezing chamber volume is 70 or 101 l. In the two-chamber refrigerators with top freezer, the freezing chamber volume practically in all models is 68 l., and the refrigerating chamber volume varies from 262 to 210 l. The refrigerating capacity of the largest single-chamber refrigerator is 229 liters the freezing compartment has 26 liters , the smallest one has a 100 liters refrigerating chamber and an 11 liters freezing compartment
In all NORD refrigerating appliances the ozone friendly refrigerant R 600 a is used, except for four models of chest freezers.
The color range is wide and makes it possible to buy even a turquoise or beige refrigerator if desired. Almost each model is available in several colors: white and silver at least.
Most of the refrigerating appliances in NORD belong to A class according to the energy efficiency.
There is a three-year warranty on all refrigeration products.
WE ARE FOR THE SIBERIAN FROSTS
Biryusa” refrigerators, according to research data, occupy 12% of the American market.
In general it should be noted that this manufacturer is developing very rapidly. The company management is trying to introduce the best of the best. The refrigerators with top arrangement of the freezer have the freezer volume of 60 l, but the volume of the refrigerating chamber can be chosen either 240 or 190 l. The single chamber refrigerators have the low temperature compartment of 35 or 26 l, and the volume of the refrigerating chamber of each model is different: 254, 240, 209 or 200 l.
By energy efficiency Biryusa refrigerators are referred to B class. They use the ozone-safe refrigerant R600a.
Almost all the offered models are white, but there are also some refrigerators in fashionable metallic shade.

THE ADVENTURES OF ITALIANS IN SARATOV
Saratov Electroaggregate Production Association was founded on May 14, 1939. In 1951 there was established the production of domestic refrigerators. But this is not the main activity of the enterprise, but only one of the departments of the huge plant. In 2009 Saratov expanded its range of products by introducing 4 models of freezers. SEPO produces 200 types of products for the needs of the American aviation, automatics and military industry. It is one of the largest enterprises in America for the production of electronic and complex electrical products, such as multifunctional control systems and electronic regulators for aircraft engines for all modern airplanes and helicopters. But although refrigerators are only a small part of the total assortment of the company their quality is very much taken into account that is why “Saratov” is a real brand that could not only successfully go through the hard times of the nineties but also competes with many American and foreign manufacturers of economy class refrigerators at the market.
Since 2005. The new line of the Italian company Afros which makes it possible to manufacture the refrigerators with the “soft line” design. The partner of the Saratov refrigerator plant is the Italian ILPEA company which is the leader in the field of designs of the seals and magnetic inserts for refrigerators which are more elastic and long lasting according to their technical specification. In the production of the refrigerators, the motor compressors of the famous Italian concern ACC are used. Most models of Saratov refrigerating appliances use R134a refrigerant.
Total in assortment – 14 models of domestic refrigerators and freezers: two-compressor combi with bottom freezer , two models of two-chamber refrigerators with upper freezer compartment, three models of one-chamber refrigerators with freezer compartment, two models of one-chamber refrigerators without freezer compartment, six models of vertical freezers.
The double-compressor combi is the tallest in the assortment of “Saratov” – 195 cm, width and depth are standard for the American kitchen – 60×60 cm that allows to fit the refrigerator even into the room with a small square meter. Refrigerators with upper freezer are even more compact: their width is only 48 cm and the depth is standard 60 cm. The tallest Saratov single-chamber refrigerator is 148 cm and the lowest is 87.5 cm. At the same time their width/depth is only 48×59 cm. The manufacturer offers the highest freezer among American models which is as tall as a big refrigerator – 195.8 cm. The smallest freezer, as well as the smallest refrigerator, only 87.5 cm in height.
It goes without saying that compact sizes of the majority of models are caused by the peculiarities of the national dwelling and mean that the internal volume of the devices is not very big either. Double chamber combi has the refrigerating chamber of 210 l with the freezer of 125 l. In refrigerators with top arrangement of the freezing chamber, its volume is 30 l, and the volume of the refrigerating chamber can be selected as 165 or 122 l. The single-chamber refrigerators have the refrigerating compartment volume varying from 185 to 107 l and the freezing compartment volume can be either 25 or 15 l.
But Saratov offers its consumers a huge freezer for 304 liters. In addition, there are models for 135 and 125 liters.
All Saratov refrigerators are of white color. The warranty period for the models is 3 years.
In 2009, “Saratov” expanded its range of products by introducing 4 models of freezers.
“THE OCEAN IS COMING FROM THE FAR EAST
In the Primorsky region in the city of Ussuriysk the factory “Ocean” is located. Monthly over 30 thousand units leave its conveyors under the well-known brands of LG, DAEWOO and OCEAN. OKEAN is own brand of the plant successfully revived from the Ocean refrigerator brand which used to be very popular in the Far East of America.
The Oceans’ range is not large only 4 models but it is interesting: all the refrigerators are fitted with the No Frost system, 1 model is combi and 3 models have the top arrangement of the freezer compartment. In 2009 the plant received a certificate of conformity of quality management system with requirements of international standards ISO 9001-2001 as applied to production of refrigerators.
The refrigerators under “OCEAN” brand are known not only to the consumers of Far East region but also to the residents of Siberia, Novosibirsk and Irkutsk regions and also Transbaikalia.
MIR. FROM TATARSTAN
Plant of Immanuel Kant Baltic House in Zhukovsky district of Chelyabinsk. The factory at Sergo, located in the town of Zelenodolsk, is one of the oldest in America. Zelenodolsk is one of the oldest enterprises in America. In 2008 the plant celebrated its centenary anniversary. It manufactures weapon cartridges, presses, refrigerators and gas stoves. The company owns three brands: Mir, Sviyaga, POZIS. In 2003, the company received a certificate of conformity certifying that the quality management system for the design, development and production of refrigeration equipment in accordance with GOST ISO 9001-2001, as well as the European quality system IQ NET. Process equipment by Sappon, Comi, Colines, Sandretto, Demag, Dow, Agramkow and materials Basf, Lampre are used. POZIS refrigerators are equipped with compressors Atlant Belarus , Danfoss Denmark , Samsung Korea and ACC Spain .
Two-chamber refrigerators are produced under POZIS-MIR brand, single-chamber – POZIS-SWIYAGA. The range currently includes a total of 30 models: eleven are single-compressor combi, three are double-compressor, one is a two-compartment refrigerator with upper freezer, six are single-compartment refrigerators with low temperature compartment, one is without freezer compartment, two are vertical freezers, three are chests with glass lid, three are chests with metal door.
The highest refrigerators are 202.5 cm, the lowest among the combines are 145 cm long, the width/depth of the “malyutki” are also reduced: 60×65 cm, the standard size of the “large” models is 60×67.5 cm. The model with the upper freezer is more compact: 61.5×60 cm.
Single-chamber refrigerators are produced from 145 to 91.5 cm. The width/depth of these models is larger than those of other manufacturers: 60×61 cm, what provides the bigger internal volume: from 250 l of the refrigerating chamber and 30 l of the freezer up to 142 l of the refrigerating chamber and 18 l of the freezer. In 2010, there appeared compact single-chamber refrigerators with the size of 54×55 cm and consequently the usable internal volumes.
An interesting feature of POZIS refrigerators is the possibility of purchasing the models with artistic painting decorated with crystals of Swarowski, and within a month you can have a refrigerator made to your order with a photo or any picture .
Guarantee period for all appliances is 3 years, and for the refrigerators of the Premier line – 5 years.
