Philips Fidelio B8: A soundbar with Dolby Atmos adds a new dimension to sound

In October 2016, the Philips Fidelio B8 soundbar with Dolby Atmos technology, unveiled at the IFA 2016 in Berlin, will go on sale in Europe. Despite its height of only 53 mm, this soundbar is capable of delivering true three-dimensional sound. While a conventional soundboard only has the ability to create a sense of ambient sound in two planes, Fidelio B8 adds a third dimension. So you can hear the helicopter really going over your head. And if it’s raining in the movie, it seems like it’s raining right through the room.

The Fidelio B8 soundbar with Dolby Atmos and Ambisound has 18 drivers. A pair of oval bass/midrange drivers with three tweeters form two upward-facing modules. The sound comes to the listener as it bounces off the ceiling, creating a third, vertical dimension. Two groups of three midrange drivers, with one middle channel driver in each group, are located on the front panel. It delivers rich sound effects and a clear, crisp voice range. Two tweeter units positioned at right angles to the panel ends, creating a surround sound field that greatly enhances the dimensions of the soundbar itself.

The bass is reproduced by a 220 watt subwoofer with a downward pointing eight-inch driver that provides deep bass. Dome shaped speaker cone allows for uncompressed performance. The downward dispersion of the drivers contributes to an even distribution of bass through 360 degrees, so you can place it anywhere in the room.

“The Philips Fidelio B8 soundbar with Dolby Atmos technology goes far beyond what you’re used to,” says Jerome Alfonsi, head of Audio, Video and Home Theater at Gibson Innovations. – People want the best possible sound in their own home. Thanks to Dolby Atmos and Ambisound technologies this soundbar creates a new dimension of sound, making it truly realistic. This is our first soundbar with 3D sound.”.
