Berlin, Germany ā Panasonic Corporation unveiled a prototype analog vinyl record player with new Direct Drive technology at the IFA 2015 in Berlin. The production model of the Technics turntable is due on the market in 2016.
The commercial launch of the turntable is scheduled for 2016
Conventional analog turntables sometimes allow sound quality to degrade due to minor motor vibrations and changes in rotor speed. To solve this problem, Panasonic has developed a new electric motor with direct rotation transmission and a system to prevent any, even the slightest, vibration. New electric motor and electronic control technology will ensure that the sound from a vinyl record is reproduced with all the nuances of the original recording.
Panasonic started to sell the first analog turntables with direct drive under Technics brand in 1970. This was followed by the SL-1200 series, which has earned the approval of critics, music lovers, dance and music clubs, studios, broadcasters and other commercial users worldwide for its outstanding sound quality and reliability. Since then, Technics has become synonymous with the word āvinyl turntableā and has gained wide popularity among professional DJs.
The new analogue player, which combines the heritage of āemotional acoustic technologyā and advanced digital technology, was developed by Panasonic to celebrate the anniversary of the Technics brand, which celebrates its 50th anniversary in September 2015.
The Technics brand was introduced by Matsushita Electric Industrial in 1965. In 2008, Matsushita Electric Industrial changed its name to Panasonic, and in 2010, production of audio products under the Technics brand was suspended. The decision to revive the legendary brand under the slogan āRediscover Musicā was made by Panasonic in 2014 as the demand for analog turntables in North America, Europe and Japan was growing, caused by music lovers rediscovering the sound value of analog records.
