Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ48/DMC-FZ150 compact cameras: not many models can boast of the advanced functionality, convenient control and speed capability

The updated ultrazooms Lumix FZ48 and FZ150 that have replaced the previous models FZ45 and FZ100 in the lineup of Panasonic is the case when you can be seriously congratulate “with the reduction”. Instead of 14-megapixel sensors, both novelties received matrixes with a resolution of barely more than 12 million. px. And here’s the interesting thing: this is not the second wave of the crisis or demotion to a junior class. It’s just that the new sensors, according to the developer’s assurances, are much better at taking pictures.

The difference becomes noticeable already in the speed indicators. CMOS-sensor DMC-FZ150 gave the apparatus the ability to record 12 full-length frames per second, or 5.5 frames with active tracking autofocus. In video recording formats appeared 1920×1080 pixels at 60 fps, with “honest” line-by-line 60 readings from the sensor.

Sensitivity thresholds have remained the same: up to 1600 ISO in normal and 6400 ISO in the extended range. But there is less noise and image quality has improved. The DMC-FZ48 is equipped with a CCD-matrix of the same resolution, but also not quite ordinary, but a special fast.

In series, this camera captures 3.7 frames per second, and in movie mode saves AVCHD format clips of 1920×1080 pixels in 60i mode, that is, with interlaced sweep of the signal at 30 fps.

In addition to its potential for sports and reportage, what differentiates the machines is the way the display is mounted. The FZ150 has a flip and swivel screen that helps with angles and covert photography, while the FZ48 has a hard-built screen both are 3 inches, 460k pixels . dots .

In addition, the “amateur” FZ48 does not have a “hot shoe” to work with ambient light. In the rest both models are perfect twins. Lenses with 25-600mm focal length 24x zoom give not the largest, but wide-angle and generally comfortable range with good aperture.

Controls include features for novice photographers like Intelligent Scene Detection, Face Detection, Automatic Object Tracking and assured anti blur protection and advanced features for advanced photographers like manual control of almost any operation setting.

Both cameras got an expanded set of digital effects from the company’s fresh mirrorless cameras, as well as a pseudo-tremendous imaging mode in MPO format .

The combination, in general, is convincing. It is not even clear how the company’s “older” compacts can compete with such devices, and even mirror less systems.

Still very few cameras can brag of both developed functionality and convenient control at the same time, and there are even less such cameras which add excellent speed capabilities and wide-angle 24x zoom to the list. The flip side of the medal, however, is obvious: both compact cameras are not at all compact, and weighs half a kilogram each.

Can anyone who has used the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ48 or DMC-FZ150 compact cameras confirm if they live up to their claims of advanced functionality, convenient control, and speed capability? I’m considering purchasing one and would appreciate firsthand feedback on these features.
