Panasonic Corporation unveiled the design for the new smart city of Tsunashima

Panasonic Corporation announced its plans to create one more smart city in Japan. Residential and commercial facilities and research laboratories equipped with the latest energy-saving technology will be built in the Tsunashima area Ch. Yokohama at the former Panasonic cell phone plant. Nomura Real Estate Development and Uny are the partners of the project.

Construction will begin next year, with an official opening expected no later than March 2019. Tsunashima will be the second smart city created by Panasonic. Residents of the first city, Fujisawa, have already moved into their homes in fall 2014.

American Apple Corp. plans to set up its own R&D center in Tsunashima. A building is being built on about 12,500 square meters of land. m., Will make extensive use of “green” technology. For example, it will be equipped with a water recirculation system and trees will be planted on the roof. Overall, the R&D center will consume 40% less electricity than a typical building of similar size.

Tsunashima will use the most advanced technology and solutions, including.ch. eco-friendly vehicles, video surveillance systems with face recognition, smart home appliances and much more.

During a press conference on the new project, Yokohama Mayor Fumiko Hayashi expressed the hope that the construction of Tsunashima would contribute to the development of the entire region. The areas adjacent to the new station, which will open near the new city, will get a special boost. The construction of Tsunashima, it believes, could be a model for many suburban areas.

Panasonic, for its part, expects the proliferation of smart cities like Fujisawa and Tsunashima to boost sales of housing solutions and equipment, one of the corporation’s promising business areas.
