Why the washing machine can smell bad

  1. Close them tightly immediately after washing.
  2. You pile dirty linen and socks in it.
  3. You haven’t descaled the drum for a long time.
  4. The fabric conditioner supply duct is clogged.
  5. Debris in the drain filter.
  6. Drain hose problems: connected incorrectly, clogged or needs to be replaced.

How to clean a washing machine

So, you open the door and it smells. What to do? Let’s start with some simple steps.

  • First, take out the detergent compartment and give it a good wash, paying particular attention to the conditioner compartment and the hole through which the conditioner enters the tank.
  • Open the filter door, unscrew it, clean and rinse it

do not be lazy, look at the manufacturer’s recommendations in the manual .

  • If there is a program of self-cleaning of the drum in the arsenal of modes, and you have at hand a special cleaner, then load it and turn on this mode.
  • If there is no such program, then pour a couple of sachets of citric acid into the cuvette, turn on the mode Cotton at the highest possible temperature.

And while the machine is being cleaned, hope that it will be enough and the smell will disappear.

  • Wipe dry all the folds of the rubber – cuffs, see if it is well cleaned during this program. You can disinfect it with chlorhexin. Some experts advise using Belize, but only if the machine manual does not prohibit the use of agents with chlorine.

If after this procedure, the smell has not disappeared, but became weaker, wash the laundry on a program with a high temperature, perhaps one cycle of the machine is not enough to remove all the dirt.

If it smells like sewage from the machine, then you’ll probably have to deal with the drain hose.

  • If you have not used the machine for a long time or went on vacation, then most likely the riser has dried out, and it means that the unpleasant smell will pass after washing. To speed up the process, open the faucet with cold water, let it flow in a thin stream while you wash.
  • If the smell appeared immediately after connecting the washing machine, it means that the hose is not properly connected to the sewer. It is necessary to entrust this work to a knowledgeable specialist.
  • Perhaps the pipe is clogged, and the hose from the inside “silted”, the water stagnates, hence the smell. In this case, you do not need to clean the washing machine, but the pipes in the bathroom or kitchen.

Washing

As you can see, there are many reasons why the washing machine smells bad.

But if you know how to clean the washing machine, and at least once every 3-4 months spend time on this procedure, the problem of unpleasant odor will be solved.

Yes, I have encountered a strange odor from my washing machine before. I usually clean it once every 2-3 months to prevent any buildup. To effectively eliminate the odor, I suggest running an empty hot water cycle with a mixture of vinegar and baking soda. This helps to break down any residue and remove any unpleasant smells. Additionally, wiping down the rubber gasket and leaving the door open after each use to allow air circulation can help prevent odors from forming.
