Photo equipment

This super-telephoto FX-format lens delivers exceptional shooting precision, no matter how fast. Itā€™s ideal for professional photographers who shoot sports events and news reports and demand maximum performance from the camera. With a fast f/2.8 aperture, a completely redesigned optical design and Nikonā€™s new Vibration Reduction VR SPORT mode, the NIKKOR 400mm f/2.8 lens guarantees exceptional image quality and tracks fast-moving subjects with astonishing accuracy. Lighter than previous models, it features a new optical design with two fluorite elements. It increased the performance of the lens and reduced its weight to keep a good balance when shooting. The robust design ensures the lens can withstand the harsh conditions of professional outdoor shooting, and the fluoride coating protects the lens from water, dust and dirt without compromising image quality.

The AF-S TC-14E III high-performance tele conversion lens is available simultaneously with this lens. Using it, the focal length of certain NIKKOR lenses can be increased by up to 40%. This is especially important for sports, news and wildlife photographers who want to increase the available focal length. The teleconverterā€™s advanced optical design delivers superb high-definition image quality even at maximum aperture, and its electromagnetic diaphragm increases exposure accuracy when using compatible lenses.

Zurab Kiknadze, Lens, Accessories and Software Manager at Nikon Europe, notes: ā€œNikonā€™s latest optical and electronic technological innovations are an undeniable advantage of the new NIKKOR range of telephoto lenses. The new 400mm lens features fluorite elements to reduce weight and improve image quality, an electromagnetic diaphragm for greater precision and the all-new SPORT Vibration Reduction VR mode. In addition, the fluorine coating provides better environmental protection and better ergonomics. The new, very compact AF-S TC-14E III tele conversion lens is also designed to increase the focal length of the super telephoto lens. These new models are designed to perform reliably even in the most demanding conditions over extended periods of time. We are confident that they will meet the demands of the most demanding professional photographers.

Versatility and accuracy

Precise and reliable, the new NIKKOR 400 mm f/2.8 prime lens is perfect for sports and reportage photographers. It captures the smallest details and textures, while its fast f/2.8 aperture ratio provides extraordinary control over shutter speed and depth of field to make your subject stand out from the background. The electromagnetic iris is guaranteed to deliver high precision control with an extremely low error rate. In addition, this high-precision mechanism enhances the stability of the auto

exposure control during continuous shooting and improves accuracy ā€“ especially when the lens is used together with an electromagnetic teleconverter, such as the new AF-S TC-14E III teleconverter. Three focus modes are available: A/M AF priority even when using the focus ring , M/A instantaneous switching from AF to manual focus in any AF mode and M manual .

SPORT mode

Nikonā€™s acclaimed Vibration Reduction VR technology enhances stability during shooting by allowing slower shutter speeds up to four additional stops , while the new SPORT Vibration Reduction mode creates incredibly sharp shots of dynamic events. Delivering a sharp image in the viewfinder when shooting fast-moving subjects, the mode allows you to capture subjects in continuous shooting mode with the same frame rate and minimal shutter lag as when VR is off.

New optical system design

The optical system contains 16 elements in 12 groups, including two fluorite and two glass ED elements. The fluorite elements are in the front, making the front of the lens lighter and shifting its center of gravity to the back for more comfortable handling and stability. Fluorite elements offer superb optical performance, producing high clarity with minimal chromatic aberration. At the same time, they have much lower dispersion than even high-quality ED glass. In addition, Nikonā€™s anti-reflective Nano Crystal Coat is used to produce clear images with minimal glare and ghosting. The lens design also incorporates a meniscus safety glass and a neutral NC filter. A convenient filter holder is located on the back of the lens.

Improved ergonomics, sturdy body

Incorporating fluorite elements in its construction, this new super telephoto lens is considerably lighter than its predecessors, reducing its weight to 3,800 g approx. . Also redesigned is the tripod adapter ring, which adds support for smooth transition from horizontal to vertical position. The tripod foot is now located at the front of the lens, which improves balance and allows for easier transportation of the lens when mounted on a tripod. The lens comes with a monopod.

The lens body is professionally protected against dust and moisture, and the fluoride coating applied to the meniscus protective glass effectively protects against water, dust and dirt without compromising image quality. Thanks to the anti-theft socket, you donā€™t have to worry about your lens being stolen, and the sturdy CT-405 travel container included in the package makes it easy and safe to transport.

New 1.4x tele conversion lens

Nikon

Nikonā€™s new AF-S TC-14E III teleconverter, which can increase the focal length of certain NIKKOR lenses by up to 40%, is also available today. Replaces the previous AF-S TC-14E II, making it ideal for use with zoom lenses and fast lenses with a fixed focal length. Its slimmer body and improved ergonomics make it the ideal tele conversion lens for photographers who want to shoot in a more compact body, but with a wider body and clearer ergonomics

specialize in sports, reportage and wildlife photography and want to increase the available focal length. Using this teleconverter with the new NIKKOR 400mm f/2.8 lens increases the focal length to 560mm.

Its optical design improves lens performance and reduces chromatic aberration that can occur with teleconverters. Thus, high image quality with full resolution is ensured even at maximum aperture. The presence of an electromagnetic aperture increases exposure accuracy when using compatible lenses. The front and rear surfaces of the teleconverter have a fluoride coating to protect it from dust and moisture, and the redesigned lens retract/retract mechanism is professionally protected from all weathers.

The new AF-S NIKKOR 400mm f/2.8E FL ED VR lens by Nikon sounds impressive! But Iā€™m curious about its compatibility with different camera models. Can this lens be used with both DSLRs and mirrorless cameras? And does it require any additional adapters?
