Dyson introduces a new development in the beauty industry: the Dyson Airwrap Styler. With it, styling is created with air currents that shape hair into voluminous curls or natural waves, and allow other effects to be achieved while drying at home.
Dyson engineers are always focused on the problem at hand. Different styling techniques were analyzed in the development process, and problems that needed to be solved were identified: tangled hair, heat damage, weak or uncontrolled airflow.
The solution to these problems was a brand new idea: to use the extensive power of the digitally controlled Dyson motor to reproduce the so-called
Coanda effect
. This physical phenomenon occurs when a high velocity air stream passes along a surface and thanks to the pressure difference envelopes it. Using this principle, Dyson’s team of aerodynamic engineers invented a styling method that uses a combination of airflow and heat.
The result, be it curls, waves, or just blow-drying, leaves hair looking more natural, smoother, and shinier, without the damaging effects of heat.

Dyson’s patented V9 engine is at the heart of the Dyson Airwrap Styler.
The combination of this motor and the unique attachments made airwrap styling possible, without the need for extreme temperatures.
The motor creates a high-pressure zone at the top of the cylindrical nozzle. High-speed airflow is distributed through six air ducts located along the nozzle. This is how the Coanda effect is created, which makes it possible to curl the hair strand on the nozzle and create curls.
Both soft and hard brushes also use the Coanda effect. Brushes smooth and shine your hair while blow drying, for added shine and smoothness once styling is complete.
The Dyson Airwrap Styler allows you to style while drying. Each hair has hydrogen bonds which break up easily when you wet the curls, this allows the strands to stretch easily. When hair dries, hydrogen bonds are rebuilt and help hold the shape of the hair.
Like the Dyson Supersonic hair dryer, the Dyson Airwrap is equipped with temperature control. Built-in thermistor measures temperature up to 40 times per second, relaying data to microprocessor and adjusts heat when needed. So the hair is not exposed to extreme temperatures.
