New action hero: Canon announces EOS-1D X Mark III

Company Canon announces development of long-awaited camera EOS-1D X Mark III which will replace well-known EOS-1D X Mark II. New flagship model is ideal for sports and wildlife photography. Developed with feedback from the global EOS-1D X and EOS-1D X Mark II user community and extensive real-world testing by professional photographers around the world. Incorporating all of Canon’s expertise in optically superior products, the new camera offers even greater autofocus capability and vastly improved image, video and communications performance. Not only will this camera give professionals the opportunity to shoot perfect pictures, it will also allow them to do so at top speed – a big advantage in such a fast-paced industry.

Canon DSLRs continue to dominate professional photography. High speed, improved autofocus and fast data transfer make the EOS-1D X Mark III ideal for professionals. And that’s especially true when shooting sports and wildlife, where the photographer has just a split second to get dynamic shots of perfect quality in demanding conditions.

Unbeatable autofocus: a quantum leap forward

The EOS-1D X Mark III will achieve lightning-fast speed with exceptional precision, reliability and efficiency in autofocus and subject tracking. More perfect shots in every burst are now possible. New deep-learning autofocus algorithm boosts stability and tracking accuracy in both Live View and optical viewfinder, ensuring sharpness in every shot. The EOS-1D X Mark III uses a new autofocus sensor in the optical viewfinder, with a central area resolution approximately 28 times greater than that of the EOS-1D X Mark II, currently considered one of the top models for professional photographers.

Richard Heathcote, Getty Images’ senior sports photographer for major events, commented, “The EOS-1D X Mark III’s new autofocus algorithm, along with intuitive operation and precise shooting results, takes subject tracking to a new level. It delivers exactly what you’d expect from the best professional sports camera.

With an increased range of autofocus sensitivity and greater precision, the EOS-1D X Mark III maximises autofocus capabilities, enabling photographers to capture the right shot. In Live View mode, 525 AF zones are available to the user, using the Dual Pixel CMOS AF system. These zones cover approximately 90×100 percent of the sensor’s area. It uses the same autofocus algorithm as the optical viewfinder, but expands the range of framing options, whether shooting a car race or a bird in flight. EOS-1D X Mark III supports considerably higher frame rate with full autofocus and auto exposure – using both optical viewfinder up to 16 mechanical shutter actuations per second and Live View mode up to 20 mechanical or electronic shutter actuations per second . And thanks to CFexpress card slots, continuous shooting RAW footage is five times that of its predecessor.

Creative freedom: anything is possible

The EOS-1D X Mark III is a prime example of Canon’s ongoing commitment to incorporating the best optical technology to push the boundaries of what is possible in imaging. Model features a revolutionary new CMOS sensor and the company’s own DIGIC processor, which deliver improved image quality even at high ISO settings and support 10-bit HEIF photography. At the same time, 4K video resolution will allow you to tell impressive stories by shooting cinematic-quality footage, including internal recording in 4K 60p with Canon Log 10-bit gamut. As EOS-1D X Mark III supports saving in format RAW both photos, and video, professionals can reduce quantity of the equipment necessary for each project.

Fast content delivery

For professionals the delivery of content is not less important, than the process of shooting. With built-in Wi-Fi, low-power Bluetooth and GPS, the EOS-1D X Mark III easily takes care of that, too. Project times are only getting shorter, so the new model transmits data twice as fast as the EOS-1D X Mark II when using the built-in Ethernet module or the new optional Wireless File Transmitter WFT-E9. The latter is also compatible with the recently released Canon Cinema EOS C500 Mark II. Combined with a simplified network setup, it makes workflow much faster and easier.

Built for professionals

Users who are already working with the EOS-1D series are easily accustomed to the new EOS-1D X Mark III with its familiar ergonomics. Magnesium alloy body provides the durability you’ve come to expect from Canon’s EOS-1 series cameras. Professionals will not be disappointed also with build quality – the same as at EOS-1D X Mark II. Highest level of weatherproofing protection even in the harshest conditions: wind, rain and high humidity.

The EOS-1D X Mark III offers incredible low-light capabilities, and backlit buttons ensure precise control of the camera even in dark or semi-dark conditions. In addition, the novelty received an additional control for selecting autofocus points, built into the AF-ON button. It makes it even easier for photographers to select the AF point to achieve the perfect composition. Finally, significantly increased battery life LP-E19, familiar to all from the previous model. It will allow the professional photographer to shoot longer without distractions for replacement of the battery and without risking to miss the shot.
