Modern trends in interior design

Fashion is a fickle thing, even if it doesnā€™t concern such ephemeral things as clothes or hairstyles. So in such ā€œstableā€ spheres as architecture and design there are also sharp trends, which both specialists and common readers of ā€œglossyā€ interior design magazines orient themselves to. But the fashion trends here are subject to much more fundamental laws than the whims of world-famous couturiers.

Modern trends in interior design

One of the ā€œgurusā€ of modern design, Alberto Costabello, proposed an interesting theory of micro- and macro-trends. The first are typical for the fashion industry, and their lifespan does not exceed a couple of years. But macro-trends, having arisen once, rule the minds of decades, and they just define the life of interior and architectural trends. For today, such trends, in his opinion, are:

  • Nature

The craving for naturalness is characteristic of modern urban civilization. Life in cramped concrete cages, visual pollution, lack of natural greenery and ponds ā€“ the scourge of megapolis residents. Thatā€™s why natural materials, smooth lines, an abundance of plants and bright colors are well established in interior design and are unlikely to go out of fashion in the coming years. That is why vertical gardens, for example, developed by Patrick Blanc, a French botanist and designer, are hugely popular. Its live installations decorate such famous buildings as Capita Land business center in Singapore or the National Theater in Taipei.

ā€œMankind is increasingly living in cities,ā€ says Patrick Blanc, ā€œat odds with nature, so the ā€˜garden-wallā€™ has a real opportunity to improve our lives. And if the plane is no longer available for gardening, the vertical is still freeā€.

  • Art refracted in design

Although the followers of constructivism believe that beauty is functionality, most of us do not agree with this statement and do not mind to add to the interior something impractical, but pleasing to the eye. After all, even a small piece of art can make an urban dwelling individual and comfortable. But only a few can turn their house into a branch of an art museum, so industrial designers who transform seemingly ordinary things into art objects, stepped in. For example, what could be more functional and boring than an ordinary heating radiator? Meanwhile, it is quite capable of becoming the semantic center of the interior ā€“ but only if we are talking about the so-called ā€œdesign radiatorsā€. For example, this is what the engineers and artists from the design studio of ROYAL THERMO ā€“ the largest European manufacturer of radiators and components for heating systems ā€“ thought about.

Royal

ā€œFrom standard ā€œbatteriesā€,

ā€“ says Alyona Kuznetsova, ROYAL THERMO specialist,

ā€“ from standard ā€œbatteriesā€, they are distinguished by their bright appearance, which can also be given an additional personality. And if until recently we sometimes had to sacrifice functionality for the sake of beauty, with the development of technology this dilemma has been resolved. For example, the ROYAL THERMO PIANOFORTE model is able to work without problems in any heating systems, from private houses to high-rise buildings, as it withstands pressure over 200 bar and is not afraid of water hammer. The patented design ā€“ the alternation of sections with different angles of slope, reminiscent of the keys of the piano, allows the buyer to create an exclusive product and turn the radiator into a real art object.

  • Historical legacy

This trend directly echoes the first two, but the main idea is a direct or implicit quotation of historical realities. You want a Victorian interior? No problem ā€“ modern stylizations allow you to create a real Sherlock Holmes apartment, with all the usual technical devices that make up modern life, will be carefully disguised, but quite functional. You want to delve even further back in time? Please, you can live even in a cave. Architects from the Spanish Ensamble Studio have successfully proved it, as they literally ā€œgrewā€ an abode in the rock on the coast.

The technology also combined ultra-modernity and archaic ā€“ the pit, dug in the ground, was filled with bales of hay, and the cavity between them poured concrete. As it hardened, it formed the shell of the future home. And in order to get rid of the straw, in the cave formed, ranā€¦ cow! Which simply ate the fillerā€¦ Then the artificial cavern was subjected to minimal finishing, equipped with technological stuffing there are all the conveniences, including high-speed Internet and a satellite dish and received a high-class apartment with a view of the sea.

  • Digital technologies

Remember the movie ā€œBack to the Futureā€? If you look at it today, itā€™s clear that a lot of things that seemed fantastic twenty or thirty years ago are real. For example, until recently it seemed a thing of the distant future of ā€œsmart homesā€ ā€“ the Smart House system. Today they have become quite commonplace. The computer monitors the temperature and humidity in each room, orders the missing products in the fridge from the online store, starts the cooking. Even changes the color of the wallpaper at will of the owner. Yes, interactive wall-screens, or Interctive-Wall, too, moved from science-fiction movies to the real world. In general, it is a combination of modern digital and projection technologies, allowing you to change the look of a house literally by the movement of your hand ā€“ through the use of Kinect sensor, which matches the gesture with a programmed visual effect.

ā€œHarmony,

ā€“ said the great architect Corbusier

is the result of a complete correspondence between cause and effect. The reason is the need to create a comfortable dwelling and, therefore, to carry out the construction of. The consequence ā€“ the exultation that embraces us at the contemplation of a smart, precise, flawless creation.

New technologies make it easy to achieve such conformity even for a design novice, and the result is quite capable of pleasantly surprise even the professional!
