HUAWEI unveils world’s first multimode 5G modem on a single chip

With high integration and small size, Balong 5000 can simultaneously support 2G, 3G, 4G and 5G. This effectively reduces signal delay and power consumption in multiple simultaneous data modes, significantly improving the usability of mobile devices in the early stages of deploying commercial 5G networks.

  • On the sub-6 GHz sub-band, the low band mainly used for 5G, the Balong 5000 can achieve download speeds of up to 4.6 Gbps.
  • In the millimeter-wave spectrum high frequency band used as an additional band for 5G the Balong 5000 provides download speeds of up to 6.5 Gbps.

Balong 5000 is the first-ever chip that supports both 5G Autonomous SA and Non-Autonomous NSA architectures. The non-autonomous 5G architecture builds on existing 4G LTE networks, while the autonomous architecture builds on its own independent infrastructure. Balong 5000 can adapt to the requirements of all users and network operators in different stages of 5G development.

Balong 5000 was also the world’s first multi-mode chip to support Vehicle to Everything V2X connectivity, providing the highly reliable, low latency communications needed for connected and self-driving cars.

HUAWEI 5G CPE Pro

HUAWEI 5G CPE Pro achieved 3.2Gbps download speed in real network test.

HUAWEI 5G CPE Pro, based on the Balong 5000 chip, supports both 4G and 5G wireless connections.

On 5G networks, 1GB of HD video takes 3 seconds to download, and 8K videos can be streamed live with no lags or interruptions.

HUAWEI 5G CPE Pro uses the new Wi-Fi 6 technology, providing download speeds of up to 4.8 Gbps. It is the first consumer 5G modem to support HUAWEI HiLink protocols needed to connect to 5G networks of smart home equipment.

As a 5G technology pioneer, HUAWEI initiated the R&D efforts in early 2009, and is now the only manufacturer that provides one-stop solutions for 5G networks. The company has more than 5,700 engineers, more than 500 of whom are experts in 5G. HUAWEI has established a total of 11 joint 5G R&D centers around the world.
