Throughout its 100-year history, Panasonic has been striving to create products that improve people’s lives. In 2008, the company laid the foundation for a new photographic culture in the era of digital photography with the release of the LUMIX G1, the world’s first mirrorless digital system camera. In the decade that followed, Panasonic continued to lead the market with its innovations – the world’s first 4K video camera, Dual I.S., which combines the work of the stabilizer in the camera body and the lens and pro.

With the growth of telecommunications bandwidth and the popularity of social media videos, more and more people were leaning toward hybrid cameras with photo and video capabilities that enhanced content creation. These tasks required a fundamentally new camera.

Responding to the market’s needs, Panasonic has started to produce mirrorless digital cameras with a strong emphasis on artistic capabilities – for both stills and video. The company is introducing them as part of its new LUMIX S series, aimed at anyone who wants to enhance the artistic expression of their work. The new models are comfortable and reliable, which is extremely important for professional still and video shooting. They will bring together a range of Panasonic technologies that have been honed over a century in the consumer electronics market and a decade in the mirrorless system camera field: digital technologies including image and signal processing, as well as optical and thermal dispersion, and more. The combination of all of the above will open up new possibilities for photo and video enthusiasts.

Key features of the new LUMIX S1R and S1:

1. High resolution and wide artistic expression thanks to new 35mm full-frame sensor and image processor. Effective pixels: approximately 47 million for the S1R and 24 million for the S1

2. World’s first: support for 4K 60p/50p video recording in a full-frame mirrorless digital camera.

3. World’s first camera with Dual I Stabilization.S., that lets you shoot in the dark or telephoto range handheld – previously requiring a tripod or other equipment.

4. Two XQD and SD memory card slots a first for Panasonic cameras , and a long-lasting three-axis tilting LCD screen that makes the camera easy to use and very useful for professional still and video photography.

5. Leica’s L-Mount mount allows the use of interchangeable lenses that meet the specifications of L-Mount partners*4, Leica Camera and Sigma, extending the range of artistic expression.

Panasonic will complement its line of lenses compatible with the LUMIX S series cameras and plans to release more than ten models by 2020, including a 50mm/F1 fix lens.4, the standard 24-105mm zoom lens and the 70-200mm telephoto zoom lens.

For LUMIX G micro 4/3 models, the company has begun developing the LEICA DG VARIO-SUMMILUX 10-25mm F1.7, which will be the world’s first super telephoto zoom lens with a maximum aperture of F1.7 at the whole range of focal lengths. The service support program for professional photographers and videographers, which started in Japan last April, will also be available in Europe and the United States this year.

LUMIX GH5, G9 and GH5S have gained respect among professionals and amateurs all over the world for their stunning photo and video quality, functionality, usability and reliability. They owe this success to the world’s first support for shooting 4K 60p/50p video, as well as the fastest autofocus system based on proprietary DFD depth-of-focus technology. Panasonic will continue to develop its LUMIX G-series and conquer the professional market with its new LUMIX S models, as well as launching a service support program for professional photographers and videographers. These steps will help create a new culture of photography and videography.
