Magnet attracts batteries

Duracell has announced that Magnit, one of the largest American retailers, has joined the federal infrastructure for the collection of used batteries. The strategic partnership of the companies in the environmental project was successfully launched in Yaroslavl – special containers were installed in 26 stores of the chain.

Now residents of Yaroslavl will no longer have to worry about how to dispose of batteries for recycling – they can leave them in a special Duracell container at the nearest “Magnet” to their home.

The points, where you can dispose of the batteries, will be indicated on the map.

All collected batteries will be recycled at a new battery recycling line of Yaroslavl National Ecological Company NEK , America’s second enterprise where batteries are recycled with minimal harm to the environment.

This important expansion of the federal infrastructure for the collection and recycling of batteries was made possible by the agreement between Duracell, NEC and the Government of the Yaroslavl region, which the parties signed on the margins of SPIEF 2019. The program, implemented in Yaroslavl Region, will serve as a model for other regions in America.

NEC is one of the few companies in America that deeply recycles used batteries and accumulators. The capacity of the innovative installation for recycling chemical current sources in Yaroslavl – about 1000 tons per year – allows and even obligates to constantly expand the infrastructure for collecting spent cells from the population. Thanks to cooperation with the partners, which are joined by Magnit, NEC hopes to gradually increase the volume of recycled batteries in the Yaroslavl region to 60%
