In a unique partnership that highlights the interplay of technology and spatial design, LG Electronics LG and the renowned architecture and industrial design firm Foster + Partners presented a collaborative work – an art installation of the LG SIGNATURE OLED TV R model 65R9 at Milan Design Week.
Unveiled at CES 2019, the collapsible OLED TV is a true sensation, redefining the interaction of the TV with the pro-space where it sits and serving as a reminder of the com- pany’s commitment to design innovation. The product design philosophy of the collapsible OLED TVs implies a new level of spatial integration and “freedom from walls” which is the core concept of the installation at Milan Design Week. The well known British firm Foster + Partners collaborated closely with LG on the design of the roll up OLED TV in order to develop the external geometry and finish of the product as well as the particular internal mechanics.
Demonstrating a high level of spatial integration with LG SIGNATURE OLED TV R as the main idea, the “Rethinking Space” installation is a three dimensional interpretation that shows how light, technology and design interact to illustrate new spatial possibilities through technology that changes shapes at the touch of a button. Combining the absolute contrast and natural colors of LG’s unrivaled OLED display technology with the realistic Dolby Atmos sound, the roll-up OLED TV takes viewers on an immersive visual and auditory journey.
This installation, designed for both home and gallery display, demonstrates how LG’s futuristic TV can transfigure a space from a large-screen home theater in full-screen mode to an art showcase when the display is in “zero” mode, being concealed in a brushed aluminum case. Light streaming through windows in the walls of the unit simulates the way the sunlight changes direction and intensity during the day, creating a feeling of the passing of time. To show how LG’s technology adapts to the rhythms of life, the collapsible display unfolds when the environment is filled with sound and light, and folds when the light and noise fade away.
Visitors to this year’s Milan Design Week will be able to see LG’s new “Reimagining Space” model of a unique TV from April 9-14 at Superstudio Più in Milan, Italy.
