LG introduced smart home appliances at CES 2013

“At this year’s CES, LG showcased its most advanced smart home appliances that enhance convenience,” said LG Electronics Home Appliance President and CEO Seong-jin Jo. – “LG’s advanced smart technology gives users the ability to control their appliances no matter where they are.

On their way home from work, they can run a laundry program for the washing machine, give the vacuum cleaner a command to clean for an unscheduled visit or get a list of food stored in the refrigerator. LG’s advanced device-to-device communication technology offers incredible convenience, as users can control appliances through their TV without taking their eyes off their favorite show. It’s the smart home for those seeking the ultimate smart lifestyle.”.

LG splits its smart home appliances into two separate but complementary groups of technologies. LG’s four key technologies – Linear Compressor, Direct Inverter Drive, Kompressor and Lightwave – provide superior performance and savings, while LG’s innovative smart technologies – Smart Manager, Smart Diagnosis, Smart Access, Smart Adapt and Smart Grid Ready – create additional convenience for consumers.

LG Smart Refrigerator

Smart fridge revolutionizes food management

Based on the company’s proprietary linear compressor, LG’s smart refrigerator is equipped with a full range of smart technology. The first of these, Smart Manager, transforms the fridge into an entire food management system. Consumers can determine what’s in their refrigerator without opening the door – via its LCD display or smartphone.

And the Smart Manager freshness controller allows you to specify any products and check their shelf life. Plus, Smart Manager recommends meals that can be made with the ingredients you have in your fridge. Recommended recipes can be sent directly to LG’s smart stove menu.

Smart Access allows you to remotely monitor the status of LG appliances via your smartphone, regardless of their location. Instead of making a long shopping list, the owner of an LG Smart Fridge – right in the supermarket – simply looks at what’s left in their fridge via their iOS or Android smartphone,.

Smart Shopping – another new feature[1] Smart Manager – allows you to order groceries in-store via the refrigerator’s LCD display itself. Products are purchased automatically when they are running low, but they can also be selected manually. Smart Shopping saves time and increases convenience by eliminating the need to visit the supermarket altogether.

Unique LG Health Manager function1 Recommends individual recipes to the fridge owner, as well as daily and weekly meal plans based on their personal profile. Age, gender, weight, height and other information is used to determine the body mass index, from which the refrigerator makes a personalized meal plan.

The LG Smart Diagnosis function has been significantly improved, allowing LG’s smart appliances to better self-diagnose and inform the user of problems.

With Wi-Fi connectivity, NFC tags and hands-free diagnostic alerts, the user is quickly aware of any minor issues, such as the ice maker shutting down, helping to limit costly and troublesome tech calls and technician house calls.

The smart fridge is also equipped with Smart Grid-Ready, which means it can automatically adjust its temperature and operating parameters to form an intelligent, comprehensive energy-saving solution. The Delay Defrost feature of LG’s smart refrigerator reduces energy consumption during certain hours of the day.

And Smart Share function allows the owners of the fridge, not only to watch their favorite TV programs on its clear screen, but also to download and view photos, music, movies, calendars and even learn the weather forecast from the fridge or other LG smart home appliances. Finally, instead of just displaying step-by-step recipes right on the refrigerator door, video tutorials are played that teach you how to cook the recommended dishes.

LG Smart Washing Machine

LG’s smart washing machines feature Smart Diagnosis, Smart Access, Smart Adapt and Smart Grid Ready. LG Smart Diagnosis uses Wi-Fi, NFC tags and loud diagnostic alerts to alert the user to technical problems, while Smart Adapt lets users load new laundry programs-such as super-rinse or disinfect baby laundry-through a smartphone or directly from the washer’s LCD screen.

Using a smartphone, the owner can check the status of the LG smart washing machine and remotely control it through voice commands. The washing program can also be adjusted, started or paused via TV.

With Smart Access, the owner retains control of their washing machine no matter where they are. No more worrying about the washing machine when you leave the house: Smart Access lets you track the status of both the washing machine itself and the dryer. The owner can remotely administer and adjust its functions and parameters, and a pop-up message appears on the smartphone screen when the laundry is done.

LG Smart Home Robot Vacuum Cleaner

A smart robot: much more than a vacuum cleaner

With a smartphone and Wi-Fi connection, users can remotely schedule the HOM-BOT to clean the house at any time of the day or night. Advanced features mean that the HOM-BOT robot can be controlled via a smartphone via graphic controls or voice commands.

HOM-BOT camera allows you to remotely monitor your home via your smartphone and even talk to family members. Like other smart appliances, the HOM-BOT allows control via an LG Smart TV.

LG Smart Cooker

Smart stove for smart cooking

The LG Smart Oven features Smart Access, Smart Adapt and Smart Diagnosis, which open up a whole new world of possibilities in smart cooking. Through a Wi-Fi connection, cooks can monitor the status of the stove, search for recipes, set cooking modes and identify malfunctions.

Even in the absence of Wi-Fi in the house, NFC technology provides the ability to program the stove for a specific meal and diagnose problems using a mobile device. What’s more, LG’s smart stove can be controlled through a smartphone – using voice commands – or through an LG Smart TV.
