According to information coming from trusted sources in Japan, Leica has applied for registration of the trademark “Q2”. This clearly indicates that the company is actively working on the successor to the Leica Q. The new camera is expected to be announced at the end of the year, but is also possible in September at Photokina 2018.
The existing Leica Q was released in June 2015 and was limited to Fuul HD video recording mode. The new Leica Q2 is expected to get 4K video recording capability and support for the L-log feature found in the SL model. The Leica Q was also devoid of external microphone support and there’s a good chance that the new model will have a separate connector for it. Among other things, expect a decent upgrade in key features with improvements in the camera’s autofocus speed.
