Leica launches the M Monochrom Stealth Edition in a limited edition

Leica announces a special edition of its unique digital rangefinder camera with a black and white sensor: The Leica M Monochrom Typ 246 ā€œStealth Edition. New version designed in collaboration with Marcus Wainwright, founder and creative director of Rag & Bone in New York. To emphasize the unobtrusive nature of the camera, Wainwright, a longtime Leica photographer and black-and-white photography enthusiast, used unique matte black and bright accents for added functionality.

ā€œTo me, the Leica M system represents the pursuit of perfection in a subject designed for special purposes. Inspired by this, I strove to further refine and perfect the M Monochrom ā€“ an almost impossible task ā€“ by removing everything superfluous from its flawless form, bringing to the forefront the hidden nature of the camera and lens,ā€ said Wainwright.

Design of the camera combines restraint, simplicity and functionality. Body painted in matte black and finished in smooth, textured black genuine leather. The graduations and numbers on the lens and some of the body text have been treated with special fluorescent paint that glows in the dark, making it easier to use in low light. The absence of the Leica logo on the front of the body and the white paint job on the lens name adds to the minimalism.

Mirror-less cameras

The ā€œStealth Editionā€ retains all the hallmarks of the original M Monochrom Typ 246 . The Leica M Monochrom sensor is free of color filters, resulting in sharp images with exceptional depth, brightness and detail, even at high ISO settings. Along with low susceptibility sensor to image noise, bright viewfinder and rangefinder, ultra-quiet shutter operation and unique design ā€“ Stealth Edition set strengthens the desire to ā€œsee in the darkā€, expanding horizons for photography with minimal light and creating dynamic atmospheric images.

Meanwhile, the Summicron-M35mm f/2 ASPH lens is small and has the perfect focal length for the classic street photographer. The lens impresses with its high image quality and unique, pleasing bokeh. Together with the Summicron-M 35, each Leica M becomes an extremely compact and elegant photo tool.
