Large zoom lens and lightning-fast autofocusing in the compact RX10 IV camera

Sony has introduced a new flagship model in its famous Cyber-shot RX10 series, the RX10 IV camera model DSC-RX10M4 . The new RX10 IV offers an unrivalled combination of mobility and speed for those amateur and professional shooters who want the best all-in-one solution.

Sony

Fast focus, fast shooting

For the first time in the Sony RX10 series, the new RX10 IV features Fast Hybrid AF, which combines the advantages of 315 phase AF points, covering about 65% of the sensor area, and contrast AF, respectively, to ultimately allow the camera to focus in as little as 0.03 secondsii. This rapid focusing speed complements the wide 24mm-600mm focal length range of the lens, ensuring you can capture any subject with great detail and clarity.

In addition, for the first time for Cyber-shot cameras, the RX10 IV features High-Density Tracking AF. This advanced technology, previously available only on a few models in the Sony Îą interchangeable-lens camera series, concentrates AF points around the subject to improve AF tracking and accuracy, making it easy to capture even the most unpredictable subjects, such as athletes or birds in flight.

Other improvements in the new RX10 IV include an improved version of the camera’s popular eye AF, focus point selection by touching the LCD screen, and focus range limitervii. AF-ON setting is assignable, as are a number of other AF modes, including AF-S, AF-C and AF-A, which can be easily programmed according to user preference and shooting situations.

The RX10 IV delivers a fast continuous shooting speed of up to 24 fpsiii with tracking AF/AE with an impressive memory capacity of up to 249 imagesv as the perfect complement to its autofocus system. Because the camera’s image processing capabilities have been significantly improved, the lag in the electronic viewfinder display has been substantially reduced, enabling you to capture the decisive moment with confidence. For convenience, you can also view continuously captured images in groups instead of individual frames during playback.

The RX10 IV features an Anti-Distortion Shutter down to a minimum shutter speed of 1/32,000th of a second , which reduces the “jello effect” usually seen in fast-moving subjects, and can also shoot completely silently in all modes, including fast continuous shooting using the electronic shutter. If necessary, the user can also switch to mechanical shutter mode.

ZEISS Vario-Sonnar T* 24-600 mm F2.4-F4 lens

The 24-600mmiv ZEISSÂŽ Vario-Sonnar T* lens used in the Cyber-shot RX10 IV features a large maximum aperture of F2.4-F4.0, which helps the camera deliver remarkable image quality throughout the zoom range up to ultra telephoto. This lens features a super ED-glass extra-low dispersion element and an ED-glass aspherical element to minimize chromatic aberration, and ZEISSÂŽ T* Coating minimizes flare and stray images.

The lens has a built-in Optical SteadyShot™ image stabilization system, which compensates for the effects of camera shake and out-of-focus effects during shooting. When the stabilization system is on, it can increase the shutter speed by about 4.5 stops.

In addition, with a minimum focus distance of 72 cm 2.36 feet and a 0.49x magnification ratio at a maximum focal length of 600 mm, this lens is capable of producing astonishingly detailed tele-macro images.

Professional video recording

The RX10 IV is the latest camera in the Cyber-shot RX lineup, offering the benefits of 4K QFHD 3840 x 2160 video recording, thanks to Fast Hybrid AF, which delivers focus speeds of about 2x faster than the RX10 III.

In 4K mode, the new RX10 IV uses full readout without pixel aggregation, capturing approximately 1.7x more information than is required for 4K video output to ensure the finest detail is captured accurately. This camera uses XAVC S™ ix codec, which records at high speeds of up to 100Mbps, depending on the shooting mode. Users have the ability to shoot at 24p or 30p in 4K mode 100 Mbps or at frame rates up to 120p in Full HD mode.

The new camera supports many other professional-level video features, including Picture Profile, S-Log3/S-Gamut3, Gamma Display Assist, Proxy Recording, Timecode/Bit User, and many more, as well as an external microphone input and headphone monitoring output.

Super Slow Motion Recordingx extended to about 4 seconds in Quality Priority Mode and 7 seconds Duration Priority Mode . This unique feature lets the user select frame rates of 1000, 500, or 250 fps and 50p, 25p, or 24pxi playback format.

Enhanced control and personalization options

The RX10 IV is equipped with the latest 3.0″ Sony’s 1.44M dots variable angle LCD with touch focus and touch panel functions, a first for the Cyber-shot RX series, for fast, smooth focus control, and WhiteMagic™ technology, which ensures bright, clear images on the LCD screen even in the harshest outdoor lighting conditions.

The camera also features a high-contrast XGA OLED Tru-Finder™ viewfinder approx. 2.35M dots , which provides realistic preview and playback functions. The lens features three rings for aperture, zoom and focus control, plus a smooth, completely silent aperture ring mode, ideal for shooting movies.

Added “My Menu” function to enhance personal customization options, allowing you to register up to 30 frequently used menu items of your choice. Menus are color-coded for easy recognition and navigation. Movie Settings menu has also been added to make shooting movies more convenient in general.

The mention of a “large zoom lens” and “lightning-fast autofocusing” in the compact RX10 IV camera sounds incredibly impressive! I’m curious to know how well these features perform in different shooting situations. Can the camera maintain the autofocus speed during fast-paced action or low-light conditions? Additionally, is the zoom lens versatile enough to capture both wide-angle landscapes and zoomed-in subjects without compromising image quality? Any insights would be greatly appreciated!
