IPS monitor iiyama XB2485WSU overview

Iiyama XB2485WSU – 24-inch LCD monitor with an aspect ratio of 16:10 and the modern IPS matrix, and therefore is of particular interest to gamers and those users who find monitors with a traditional 16:9 aspect ratio is not too comfortable. The situation is such that devices with a similar iiyama XB2485WSU set of features on the market is not very much, and this is an excellent reason to get acquainted with the novelty of the Japanese manufacturer more closely.

Computers and peripherals

Complete set

iiyama XB2485WSU package includes the monitor itself with a stand, a set of cables power, D-Sub, DVI-Db audio, USB , a plastic stand for neat fixation on the stand, various user manuals and booklets and a warranty card. All this is packaged in an inconspicuous cardboard box with a convenient plastic handle for transportation.

Design and interfaces

In the design of the XB2485WSU model one can guess the already traditional style of iiyama monitors: this is a strict, laconic device with clear lines, a relatively thin frame around the display, a massive round stand and the absence of any “ornaments”. The case of the monitor, as well as the stand, has a matte, rough to the touch coating without glossy inserts and other decorative elements. The device is made entirely in black.

The bottom panel below the display is slightly thicker than the rest, making the monitor appear almost square. At the very center of the bottom panel is the iiyama logo, and in the upper left corner of the frame is the model name.

In the lower right corner, on the bezel, there are four control buttons for adjusting monitor settings, and a power button. Controls are not backlit and can only be touched by feel in the dark. However, it is unlikely that you will have to use them so often. Next to the buttons there is a power indicator. It is worth mentioning that the light it gives off is not too bright, and this is a definite plus of the model in question.

Computers and peripherals

On the back side of the monitor placed interfaces DVI-D, DisplayPort, D-Sub, audio jack, headphone jack and two USB ports. Two more ports are located on the left side of the device. A little disappointing is the lack of HDMI input, which certainly reduces the list of compatible devices, but in general, can hardly be considered a serious disadvantage. On the back panel, there are also built-in speakers.

Iiyama XB2485WSU has a massive stand with metal hinges and an original elevator mechanism that is responsible for changing the position of the display in the vertical plane within 110 mm. The stand mechanism also allows you to swivel the monitor left and right by 160 degrees, change the tilt angle from -5° to +22° and rotate the display into portrait mode.

In a word, the monitor gives impressive freedom of action, however, iiyama engineers had to sacrifice mobility: a wide functionality of the stand compensated by an impressive weight, and therefore the device will not be so easy to move or rearrange – it weighs about 6.5 kg.

The menu of monitor settings was simple and logical, so users shouldn’t have any problems with it.

The first section, Picture, allows you to change the brightness, contrast, color temperature of the image as well as control the analog connection options.

In the second section OSD the user can set the settings of the menu position on the screen, time of its display and transparency level.

The third item, Display, gives access to the settings of the image display in different resolutions and preset picture modes.

Here you can also turn dynamic contrast and eco-mode on and off, adjust picture sharpness, set the gamma value and turn on the OverDrive function. In the fourth section Audio Settings you can adjust the volume of the built-in speakers and select the audio source.

In operation

The iiyama ProLite XB2485WSU has proven itself in the field. Connecting and adjusting the settings to display the picture took no more than five minutes. The picture in darkened scenes of the movies is moderately contrasted and saturated, and the objects do not merge with one another even in the lowest light. In fast motion pictures there is hardly noticeable blurring, but when you activate the OverDrive function it will not be noticeable.

The viewing angles are traditional for the IPS matrix, and the color rendition distortion that occurs when you change the viewing angle is smooth. Thanks to the functional stand you can find the optimal position of the screen and achieve almost perfect color reproduction at an angle of 90 °.

In a bright light the display does not glare, which, of course, is a definite plus when working with graphics. In general, the presence of a modern IPS matrix makes iiyama ProLite XB2485WSU quite suitable for semi-professional work in graphics editors, photo processing, working with color, etc.p.

And of course, the device is suitable for computer games, even if not so much due to the low response time in this model it is quite standard – 5 ms , but the aspect ratio 16:10, good viewing angles and FullHD resolution.

Of course, built-in speakers and a USB hub with 4 ports are a nice “compliment” from the manufacturer, which makes working with the monitor a little more comfortable and enjoyable. Even if the speakers are not of high quality, but they are good enough as a “reserve” sound.

Conclusions

The Iiyama ProLite XB2485WSU is a great representative of its class. We could complain about the lack of HDMI interface or small “gaps” in the quality of assembly, but overall – the monitor fully justifies its cost about 14 000 rub. , and on a solid five performs its main function – the reproduction of clear and high-quality images with bright and vivid colors without visible distortion, grain and glow effect. So this device can be recommended to those users who are looking for an IPS-monitor with a “computer” aspect ratio of 16:10.
