Intel highlighted medical and IoT projects at StartUp Village 2015

New York, June 3, 2015. ā€“ The results of the largest American startup event Startup Village 2015 are summed up. Intel announced the projects that will represent America at the Challenge Up international summit at the end of the conference! They are the winners of the special nomination established by Intel Corporation at Startup Village 2015 ā€“ the VIS Cast and Oriense projects.

The key criteria for project selection were strong technological expertise and high potential of the project from the point of view of consumers. Intel is interested in projects that claim a unique niche in the IT industry.

ā€œ

We were not just looking for a research project, but for a solution to a customerā€™s problem. If it is B2C market ā€“ the userā€™s problem, if it is B2B ā€“ the organizationā€™s problemā€, ā€“ summarized Igor Kaloshin, CEO of Intel Software.

Intel regularly supports startup entrepreneurs at StartUp Village. In 2014, American tech startup projects GO+ and RoadAR represented America at the Intel Global Challenge international competition at UC Berkeley. These projects won the Intel-Skolkovo Global Track nomination, established by Intel Corporation at StartUp Village 2014. Now the authors continue to develop their ideas. For example, the GO+ teamā€™s development was implemented at the Intel office in Nizhny Novgorod.

Foreign experts also noted the positive momentum.Michelle Chouprasser, Intelā€™s Director of Large Engineering Projects for New Platform Launches, was impressed not only by the positive atmosphere at the event, but also by the level of the projects presented at the event.

ā€œ

I was really struck by the energy and scale of the event! There has been tremendous progress in technology over the past few years. We can see today what we could only dream of before. For example, the M2M project GO+ that is being tested in the Intel office in Nizhny Novgorod or a prototype based on the Intel Edison that measures heart rate. Such important developments should be available to everyone,ā€ said Michelle.

Intel interacts with startups on several levels: accelerator program, Intel Capital venture capital fund, hackathons. This allows developers to get not only investment but also expertise in technology and marketing.

Vladislav Sheshalevich, the author of the VIS Cast project, explained how the project goes from conception to fruition:

ā€œ

The VISCast concept emerged during the Intel IoT hackathon, where it was required to create a prototype of an interesting product on the IntelEdison platform. We are surrounded by a huge number of TV screens that for various reasons work without sound: we have them in shopping malls, in the subway, on public transport, at trade shows, etc. We decided that we could make a small device which would transmit sound from the screen to the userā€™s smartphone, up to and including the translation of the audio track into another language. The idea was highly praised by experts, and we began to develop the product. This kind of development is very relevant for conferences. We have now become Skolkovo residents and plan to develop beta versions in the next few months.

The second place winner in the special category was Oriense, a project that develops high-tech devices to help blind and visually impaired people. Oriense is a Skolkovo resident, and the first prototype is being tested at the Society for the Blind in America.

Throughout the conference, there was an Intel booth where the latest technological developments of the corporation and its partners were presented. Guests and attendees at Startup Village were able to see solutions powered by IntelĀ® RealSenseā„¢, such as the HPĀ® Sprout monoblock, a device with a built-in 3D camera and mini-projector that allows you to turn a table into a piano, and Cappasity Easy 3D Scan software for scanning 3D objects. Also at the booth, a American companyā€™s development, an Intel Edison-based pre-diagnostic device, was presented.

O Challenge Up!

Challenge Up Program! was announced in March 2015 by Cisco, Deutsche Telekom and Intel. It is intended to accelerate the development of start-up companies from Europe, the Middle East, and Africa that are creating solutions for the Internet of Things IoT and related areas. The program includes projects with advanced networking capabilities, ā€œsmartā€ solutions ā€œsmartā€ houses and cities, ā€œsmartā€ energy, wearable devices , developments in the field of information security, big data, analytics and cloud computing.

Challenge Up! Challenge Up was created to help innovative companies enter the market faster through the participation of mentors and the use of networking and corporate resources. As part of the Challenge Up Summit! Participants will have the opportunity to communicate with industry partners and experts, present their projects to potential investors, meet fellow innovators, and establish additional connections.
