Intel accelerates migration to cloud-enabled networks

SANTA CLARA Calif. , Nov. 9, 2015. ā€“ Intel today announced new products and collaborations to accelerate the transition to a more dynamic

Cloud-enabled communications networks

, that will help meet the demand for new telecom, cloud, and data center services. Plus, new innovations will power the devices and services of the future.

Intel accelerates migration to cloud-ready networks.

New products and new ecosystem collaboration projects will help the industry modernize todayā€™s networks and lay the groundwork for 5G network deployments.

  • Expansion of the IntelĀ® XeonĀ® D-1500 processor family and new IntelĀ® Ethernet controllers increase performance and bandwidth and enable intelligence in networks for rapid service delivery.
  • Intel partners with industry leaders and announces Am&eacute rica M&oacute vil* chooses Intel as technology partner to modernize its network.
  • Intel advances its network ecosystem to accelerate development and deployment of open standards-based solutions and announces collaboration with Red Hat* as part of IntelĀ® Network Builders Fast Track.

Billions of devices gain advanced networking capabilities, from smartphones to cars to entire businesses, creating new usage patterns and opportunities to provide new services. This trend is driving demand for network and storage resources. Todayā€™s networks are designed in a way that prevents communications providers from quickly and cost-effectively expanding their infrastructure. To realize the full potential of the Internet of Things and expand mobile computing capabilities, communications networks must be redesigned. Increased programmability and operational flexibility must be implemented across the infrastructure to cope with the anticipated growth in the volume and complexity of data traffic.

ā€œNetworks face increasing demands, t.k. increasing the number of connected devices and the digital services sold through them,ā€ said Sandra Rivera, vice president of the Data Center Group and head of Intelā€™s Network Platforms Group. ā€“ Implementing intelligence across the entire communications infrastructure and using an industry standards-based approach offers service providers a foundation for building dynamic cloud-enabled networks that will enable them to expand their capabilities to deliver new services.ā€.

Intel is expanding its ecosystem and product portfolio to provide the foundation for cloud-enabled networks

Intel is actively working with industry leaders, including Cisco*, SK Telecom* and Verizon*, to accelerate the transition to more flexible and dynamic networks today and lay the foundation for 5G networks of the future. Intel offers cutting-edge technologies that extend the functionality and capacity of networks and support an ecosystem to deliver new standards-based solutions. Intel announced the following new projects and developments:

  • Am&eacute rica M&oacute vil*, a leading mobile operator in Latin America, recently chose Intel as its technical advisor to improve the flexibility, efficiency and scalability of its networks. Intel will provide support and expertise to Am&eacute rica M&oacute vil as it modernizes its infrastructure to accelerate the launch of new services, automate workflows and reduce operating costs in Latin America and Europe.
  • New offerings in the IntelĀ® XeonĀ® processor D-1500 family set the stage for networking intelligence to increase speed and reduce latency. 8 new processors deliver high performance, low power consumption and support twice the memory of previous generations of products in an integrated single-chip system, making them the optimal solution for networking, cloud storage, enterprise storage and IoT applications. More than 50 models of networking, cloud storage and enterprise storage systems based on the Intel Xeon D-1500 processor family are in development.
  • New IntelĀ® Ethernet Multi-host Controller FM10000 family combines proven Ethernet technology and advanced switching resources for use in high-performance communications networks and server platforms with dense computing resources. With up to 200 Gb/s throughput and multiple 100 Gigabit Ethernet ports, it delivers exceptional packet processing capabilities and greatly reduces performance bottlenecks when moving network traffic in and out of servers.
  • New IntelĀ® Ethernet Controller X550 family is an energy-efficient and cost-effective 10 Gigabit Ethernet-based solution to boost data center servers and networking systems.
  • Intel is an active developer of the network ecosystem and IntelĀ® Network Builders program, with over 180 participating companies. In August, Intel introduced IntelĀ® Network Builders Fast Track, designed to accelerate innovation in the networking ecosystem by optimizing hardware and software solutions, supporting technology integration across the ecosystem, and developing interoperable solutions.
  • Red Hat* is the first independent software vendor to actively participate in all key aspects of Intel Network Builders Fast Track. Red Hat* has a strong track record of commercializing open-source technologies and has long partnered with Intel to bring standards-based solutions to the telecommunications industry. As part of the growing collaboration, the two companies will work together to optimize their carrier-class solutions based on Red Hat* software and Intel technologies, collaborate on deployment recommendations, and test interoperability between their platforms and other solutions.
