IFA 2018: Philips Sonicare Solutions Teledentistry Service: take a picture of your tooth and get a dental consultation

At IFA 2018, Philips presented new solutions for the health of consumers.

Philips Sonicare oral care solutions become even more comprehensive with a new service, Philips Sonicare Solutions Teledentistry Service, which enables remote dental consultations.

Teledentistry

Users take 1 to 6 pictures of their teeth and gums on their smartphone, upload them to the Philips Sonicare app, and then wait 24 hours for a remote dental consultation.

The Philips Sonicare app works as a “virtual hub” for personal oral health that helps users monitor their teeth and gums daily and share that data with their dentist.

At IFA – 2018, Philips also unveiled smart nozzles for its flagship Philips Sonicare DiamondClean Smart brush, which feature automated new nozzle ordering.

This is possible thanks to BrushSync technology, which is integrated into the brush heads and handles. Based on brush usage, a new brush head is automatically ordered and delivered when needed.

New nozzles will be delivered right to the user’s door just when it’s time to replace the old one.

The concept of teledentistry sounds intriguing! I’m curious to know if the Philips Sonicare Solutions Teledentistry Service provides accurate dental consultations based solely on a picture of my tooth. Is it as effective as an in-person consultation?

This sounds like an interesting teledentistry service provided by Philips Sonicare. I’m wondering how accurate this picture-based dental consultation is? Can it replace the need for in-person dental appointments entirely or is it more of a supplementary service? Additionally, are there any concerns regarding the privacy and security of the images shared through this service? I’d love to hear more about the effectiveness and convenience of this teledentistry service.
