How to tame the Dremel Glass

Glass is a very sensitive and fickle material which is difficult to work with. Many people find they need to drill holes in glass and make mistakes when doing so. The following tips will help you avoid them.

Dremel

What you’ll need:

  • Dremel 3000

  • Diamond Glass Drill Bit #663 nozzle with coolant included

  • piece of damp, clean cloth.

Let’s get to work

First, make sure the glass is clean. Then locate the place of the future hole and apply a light dab of coolant to the hole. It will keep the diamond drill bit #663 from getting hot, so you can work safely and efficiently.

Set the Dremel 3000 high-speed rotary tool’s cutting speed to a maximum of 15000rpm when drilling through glass. For best results drill for a few seconds then add a little coolant and continue. Apply no pressure to the surface, no matter how thick the glass is. The weight of the tool and the speed of the bit are enough to get the job done.

If you want to drill through uneven glass surfaces, a diamond drill is fine for this type of work as well. But remember: when working with uneven glass you must drill slowly with a swinging nozzle. You can also make a notch in the glass by drilling at a 45-degree angle for a few seconds. This allows you to fix the nozzle on the work surface and start drilling.

When the hole is complete, wipe the glass working surface with a clean, damp cloth.

Good to know:

  • This type of work can be done with any Dremel high-speed multitool.

  • The durability of diamond drill bit 663 is inversely proportional to the glass thickness.

  • There may be a glass “plug” left over on the bit after drilling. Remove it with a pin or piece of wire.

  • It is not recommended to use nozzles designed for glass engraving, because it will reduce the service life of these nozzles.

  • Do not use the Dremel Glass Drill Bit when working on floor tile. This will also shorten the tool’s service life.

There are several steps you can take to effectively tame the Dremel Glass. Firstly, make sure to choose the appropriate bit for your desired cutting or engraving task. Additionally, always wear protective goggles and a face mask to prevent any glass shards from causing harm. Taking your time and using a steady hand will also contribute to achieving better results. However, without further context, it would be helpful to know specifically what aspect of using the Dremel Glass you find challenging or need assistance with. Can you provide more details about your specific concerns or doubts?
