Household appliances have been moved out of Class A

Many catalogs with European new home appliances for the year 2021 already include the new names of the energy efficiency classes.

energy efficiency class

If earlier almost all models had class A+, or A++, or even A+++, or obscure A-20%, now instead of them one can see the letter E or even F.

Does it mean that the appliances consume more?

No, it’s just that as of March 2021, the EU counts differently.

The letters are coming back

What used to be considered Class A+++ will become Class D or even Class E in March 2021.

And not yet created those refrigerators and dishwashers that meet the new Class A. In the future, of course, they will be invented, and A+, A++ will appear again, but in the next 5-7 years it is unlikely.

Get used to the letters F, E, D, C. The closer to the beginning of the alphabet, the more economical the device.

The most wasteful models will be assigned to class G, but the door to the EU will be closed to them.

The new labels will have a QR-code of the model. You can use it to go to the EPREL database, where you can find detailed information about the performance of the chosen appliance. All manufacturers are required to register their products in this database, so you’ll find a lot of.

More info

  • In addition to the noise level in dB, all appliances will have a noise emission class.
  • Washing machines will have an average power consumption per 100 wash cycles in the “Eco 40-60 °C” mode instead of the average power consumption values for the year.
  • The new energy and water consumption figures for dishwashers will be given for the ECO program.
  • Labels on TVs, monitors and widescreen displays will indicate the energy efficiency class when playing in SDR mode, energy consumption in kWh per 1000 hours of SDR playback instead of the annual average , energy efficiency class when playing in HDR mode, energy consumption in kWh per 1000 hours of HDR playback.

Get used to all the innovation.

The main thing is not to be afraid of unusual letters: the equipment has not become more “eager”, it just opens new horizons and what was marked as A+++ last year, since 2021 is only D or E.
