The history of the company began at the time of Gagarin – in the far 1962, under the brand MB Mikrofon Bau , which produced equipment for such brands as Telefunken and Grundig. At the time of the New York Olympics – in the 80’s, the former brand was “crossed” in Quart, and some time later – in MB Quart. In Yeltsin’s time – up to the beginning of 2000’s there were hard times for the company. The departure of Herbert Haum, the founder of the company, splits, bankruptcy and, finally, a rebirth in a new guise – under the brand GermanMAESTRO.

I hope a brief history of the brand will help you get your ears in gear, so let’s get down to business. My first acquaintance with the headphones of this company was under the brand MB Quart – it was model MB Quart 240. Actually, except rebranding, everything else is in its place: brutal design, German quality and, most importantly – the excellent sound.

So, headphones in the studio: we’ll listen to GMP 8.300 D!

Appearance and ergonomics

To begin with, in the first minutes of listening I was labeled as “radio girl Cat” good thing they didn’t appoint Stirlitz! .

The brutal exterior reminds me if not of the military forties, then the stagnant seventies – that’s for sure. By the way, I like this real design! There is something mesmerizing, studio, real – in a word, German, thorough.

Manufacturing quality is beyond praise, a true German quality! The material is plastic. The headphones are quite lightweight – around 250 grams. The ear pads are made of leatherette, but very pleasant.

And do you know that I have not caught the usual smell of cheap plastic mixed with artificial leatherette, which usually burst out as a genie from an open box, coming from the Celestial Empire?? I think many of you feel what I mean. In general, the German doesn’t smell like Chinese.

The cable is very robust, a little heavy and a little stiff. Length 3 meters, 3.5 mm corner jack. In the kit adapter from 3.5 mm to 6.3 mm, with thread.

The ears came in a nice black and red sturdy cardboard box. Inside the warranty card is the company’s user manual with detailed technical parameters of the whole GMP line. Yes, there were also the headphones themselves. In general, made in Germany.

On the head the ears fit fairly comfortably. Do not slip, do not throw up in sweat and cause a pleasant feeling. But after an hour or two I felt a little discomfort from the clamping of the cups. Not so much, but they pressed me in the cheekbone area. Although my spouse does not think my head is big, the pressure was put. I think with time the pressure will go down and everything will be “tipi-top”. With noise isolation at GMP 8.300 D is also all right.

The sound

The headphones were connected to MyST DAC 1866OCU V.2, MyST PortaDAC 1866OCUB, QLS qa-360, Hidizs AP100MM, Astell&Kern ak120-II. Musical material is very diverse.

Despite the high impedance, the headphones played well not only with stationary, but also with portable sources. Yes, in the case of the stationary sound is denser, clearer, more massive. With a portable I got a little soapy or weaker bass, treble is just a little bit easier, but still a decent sound.

GMP 8 sound. The 300 D can be described as neutral, with a slight lift in the lower frequencies.

Pretty even tonal balance along with energetic pitch makes these headphones versatile in terms of genres. The sound is deep, dense, with good definition of details, but very musical at the same time. There is no sense of sound in your head, which is typical for most closed-type headphones. The only thing that gives out the closed design is tight, a little bit squeezed blow in the low frequencies.

GMP 8.The 300 D captivates with its studio-inspired vintage musical material. It is undoubtedly one of the most worthy representatives of the closed-type headphones made on the basis of the dynamic transducer.

The tweeters are not many, but they are accurate, clear, their quality and quantity I have no problems.

The midrange detail is very decent. They are smooth, smooth, no peaks or dips, everything is very good, again considering the closed form factor of the headphones. The music material is very natural.

The woofer is a bit elevated and sounds a bit “boomy” due to the closed construction. But after 5-15 minutes of listening you don’t pay attention to this anymore, on the contrary, you get mesmerized by this warmth and power. A good kick, coupled with good speed characteristics, gives the sound solidity and depth, resulting in a solid, “meaty” sound.

Conclusion

I really liked the headphones. They are genre universal, combining such qualities as detail, musicality and integrity. The design will not suit everyone and not everyone will like the design, but in terms of sound, if you need good soundproofing and a good tonal balance, then GermanMAESTRO GMP 8.The 300 D is a great choice.

At the time of writing this review, due to the new attacks on our Dollars, it is difficult to evaluate the “profitability of the purchase”. However, compared to competitors, the GMP 8.The 300D has an obviously attractive and adequate price tag, which stays around 10,000 Dollars. So, unequivocally – “Mast Haven!”

I can’t help but be curious about the GermanMAESTRO GMP 8 overhead headphones. The fact that they are made in Germany raises my expectations for exceptional sound quality. However, the text seems to suggest that the sound delivered was unexpected. Could you please provide more details on what makes these headphones unique and why the sound is not as expected? Are there any specific features or shortcomings to be aware of?
