The concept for the European Light Opportunity Center, designed by Italian architecture studio Cerquiglini & Rossi, was articulated by its art director, Andrea Cerquiglini, who said: “Use light as if it were another material for creativity, a narrative, as a material with which to speak to the client in the language of emotion.”.
The showroom of GE Lighting European Center is a kind of showroom, but completely different from the usual and boring analogues.
Wishing to get away from the usual realism, the designer, inspired by classical art and Caravaggio’s breathtaking paintings in particular, let his imagination run wild.
Here visitors are invited to take a leisurely stroll from the enchanted light forest with its bird cries and the fading or flickering of light to the heart of the city, experiencing on the way the latest GE lighting technologies presented in unique, interactive spaces specially created to show them.
Each area of application of light solutions is represented by a particular slice of urban life, artistically designed as an interactive space that comes to life when you approach it.
The first stop is a fancy boutique, a luxurious baroque palace, the second is a window overlooking the supermarket’s grocery aisle.
The third space is an interpretation of a modern refrigerated storefront, presented in a playfully ironic style. Visitors then see the office, the interior of which has a much more exciting design than typical work environments.
Finally, in the advancing twilight, the visitor meets the main driving force behind the invention of artificial lighting in a historical perspective: the latest GE LED technology illuminating the city at night.
At the Center’s opening, Phil Marshall, president and CEO of GE Lighting EMEA, said: “More than 130 years ago Thomas Edison created the first publicly available electric light bulb, today we are witnessing a similar revolution in lighting.
Consumers are demanding energy-efficient, sophisticated lighting solutions based on LED technology. Based on GE’s 130 years of experience, we’re constantly working to create the lighting of the future.
And GE Lighting’s European Light Capability Center is, above all, a place where state-of-the-art technology meeting tomorrow’s trends meets design.”.
