FUNAI FUJI: air handling unit replacing air cleaner

I decided to get an air purifier, because the air in the open window is getting harder and harder to breathe. But where can you find one that can handle everything that comes in from the street??

While studying the market of air purifiers I came across the information about the compact air intake and exhaust unit. Passing through the unit, the outdoor air is cleaned and can also be humidified, heated or cooled, and most importantly, the installation does not require a network of ducts and global repairs.

The difference between the supply and exhaust units from air purifiers is that the air in the room is constantly updated: fresh, oxygenated air enters the room after purification from impurities, and room air leaves to the outside. Ordinary air conditioner cannot create a favorable microclimate in full: it only cools and heats the air, without providing air exchange.

Appearance

FUNAI FUJI air inlet and outlet unit is a small rectangular unit: 38.6cm x 61cm, only 13.8cm deep.

Informative display on front panel and remote control included.

Front panel can be removed for filter replacement.

FUNAI FUJI can be installed either vertically or horizontally. The display rotates, the unit looks good in any position.

Operating modes

1. Manual basic

Outdoor air is first cleaned, then heated or cooled depends on the outdoor/room temperature ratio , cleaned with H12 HEPA filter and discharged into the room. Room air is first filtered through the pre-filter, then goes through the recuperator to heat or cool the supply air, then out into the open air.

When the unit is operating in this mode, the flow rate can be additionally adjusted, and the ionizer can be switched on and off.

2. Night

In this case, the fans run at minimum speed and the backlighting is off for most of the display.

3. Intelligent

Automatic, with an activated VOC sensor that continuously monitors the concentration of harmful volatile organic compounds.

When their level is high, the intensity of air flow automatically increases, as the air is cleaned, the speed of the fans decreases.

You can turn the ionizer on or off and activate recirculation modes.

Recirculation

When it is cold outside, you can fully or partially close the supply valve and open the recirculation valve.

When partially opened, the room air is mixed with the outdoor air, which raises its temperature. Mixed air flow is cleaned with filters, including HEPA, becoming cleaner.

There are three comfort temperature modes:

• Manual

Independently set recirculation percentage 0/100% 25/75% 50/50% 75/25% 100/0% .

• Automatic Comfort

FUNAI FUJI automatically switches the damper opening percentages according to the outside temperature and maintains the supply air temperature at +20°C.

• Automatic ECO

Supply air temperature is automatically maintained at +16 degrees, saving electricity.

Ionization

Built-in ionizer saturates the atmosphere in the room with negatively charged ions that are very good for your well-being. The air saturation with aeration ions improves sleep, concentration and attention, performance and mood. Ionization function can be disabled.

In all modes the air handling unit is very quiet.

Control

FUNAI FUJI can be controlled by remote control. Buttons on it are illuminated, so if need be, the settings can be easily changed even at night. One touch of a button to turn off the light.

Using remote control you can increase or decrease the airflow rate, set on/off the recirculation mode, ionizer, select an operating mode and monitor the contamination level of the filters.

The display on the front of the enclosure shows basic information:

• current settings:
  • active mode,
  • ionization,
  • % recirculation,
  • Fan speed,
• incoming stream temperature,
• current VOC concentration,
• filter replacement indication.

You have to read the manual for the first few times. There is a very detailed description of everything, including the modes of operation.

Design

FUJI does not require complex ductwork. Horizontal or vertical installation possible

Before buying must be located: a solid wall facing the street, without any utilities.

A power outlet must be no more than 50 cm away.

Air handling unit can be installed even when finishing work is being carried out, i.e. not only during renovation. But installation must be carried out by specialists. After their work it is not necessary to make repairs, even cosmetic: neither furniture, nor wallpaper, nor the ceiling will be damaged.
