Professional quality: photo and video capabilities

Much of the image quality and performance is determined by the heart and brain of the camera. The sensor and processor in the X-E4 are the same as those in the flagship X series cameras. In many ways, the only difference is the design of the camera. Enjoy the beauty of the X-Trans CMOS 4 sensor and the processing power of the X-Processor 4 in the smallest body.

Featuring 26.1 Megapixel resolution, the sensor uses a unique color filter array to control moiré and false color without using an optical low pass filter. Its back-illuminated structure improves image quality while maintaining a high signal to noise ratio. The sensor also has 2.16 million phase auto focus pixels, covering approx. 100% of the frame, resulting in high AF performance response time as low as 0.02 sec. no matter where your subject is in the frame.

The X-Processor 4, the latest version of the X series image processor, has combined with the latest algorithms to substantially improve the tracking performance of the camera, increasing the speed and precision of the autofocus and enabling a wider range of movie functions. It maximizes the full potential of the X-Trans CMOS 4 sensor to deliver the highest performance in all aspects of the X series.

The legacy of color science underpins any image you’re going to create. Developed with over 85 years of Fujifilm knowledge and technology, film simulation modes offer superb depth, saturation and tonality that hardly needs any enhancement. The X-E4 has 18 of these modes, including Velvia mode for high color saturation and contrast, and ETERNA Bleach Bypass, which replicates the traditional darkroom film processor, letting you create unique images with low saturation and high contrast.

As for video capabilities, the X-E4 initially records 6K resolution video from the entire sensor area, to then convert it to 4K. The camera is capable of recording 4K /30p 4:2:0 8-bit on internal media or outputting 4K/30p 4:2:2 10-bit via the HDM port for recording on external media. The X-E4 also features Full-HD High Speed Movie at 240fps which can be used to produce 10x slow motion effects.

Variety of functions and ease of use

The camera weighs 364g and measures 121x73x33mm. The X-E4 is the most compact 4th generation interchangeable lens X-series camera. To ensure a compact and ergonomic design, the camera incorporates a rotatable LCD display that keeps the body as slim as possible.

Display can be tilted up and forward up to 180 degrees, allowing you to shoot many different high and low angle compositions as well as self-portraits and video for vlogs. The top panel has a shutter speed dial S.S. Dial which can be adjusted manually or switched to program mode P if semi-automatic adjustment is required. Controls are concentrated at the front discs to provide more space for your thumb.

The X-E4’s rangefinder-style viewfinder is located on the left side of the camera, allowing you to track out-of-frame movements with your left eye and predict what may be happening in the frame. Documentary photographers have been using this technique for years. Your right eye will be looking into the high definition 2.36 million pixels OLED electronic viewfinder. Color tone and exposure can be checked in real time, allowing you to determine exactly what the camera will capture and fine tune the result to your intentions.

In addition, the camera is equipped with Wi-Fi IEEE 802.11 b/g/n and Bluetooth 4.2, has USB Type-C, Micro HDMI and an external microphone jack. Powered by a lithium-ion battery NP-W126S for 460 shots.

Price and availability

The price of the Fujifilm X-E4 in America will be 76,999 Dollars for the Body package and 89,999 Dollars for the set with a 27 mm F2 lens.8 WR R. Camera will be available in black and silver body. Slated to go on sale in March 2021.

The FUJIFILM X-E4 stands out from other X-series mirrorless cameras with its compact size and sleek design. Despite its small form factor, it packs advanced features and specifications. It houses a 26.1-megapixel APS-C X-Trans CMOS 4 sensor, which delivers excellent image quality and low-light performance. The camera features a high-speed X-Processor 4, enabling fast autofocus and continuous shooting up to 20 frames per second. The X-E4 also boasts a unique, hidden LCD touchscreen that can be flipped down for vlogging or tilted up for easy viewing. Its small size makes it highly portable and discreet, ideal for street photography or travel. However, the compactness affects some aspects of performance and handling. The camera lacks in-body image stabilization and a dedicated grip, which might impact stability during handheld shooting and ergonomics for people with larger hands. Nevertheless, the X-E4’s compactness and impressive features make it an excellent choice for photographers seeking a lightweight, powerful mirrorless camera.

I’m intrigued by the FUJIFILM X-E4, touted as the smallest mirrorless camera in their X-series. I’m wondering how this compact size affects its performance and features? Does it compromise image quality or any other functionalities compared to the larger models in the X-series lineup? I’d appreciate any insights or personal experiences from those who have used this camera.
