FUJIFILM introduces the X-E1 interchangeable lens system camera, the second system camera to be released this year. The X-E1 continues the philosophy of the acclaimed X-Pro1, inheriting its heritage of the 16MP APS-C X-Trans CMOS sensor and X Mount, but at the same time being 30% smaller and lighter, along with the electronic viewfinder and built-in flash. In addition, the lineup of lenses will be expanded to include. This autumn, the number of lenses will increase from 3 to 5, and 10 different lenses will be available early next year.
With its compact size and high speed autofocus, the X-E1 is a proud addition to the X series family. The camera will be available this Fall and will come in silver and black, inheriting the same elegant design of the previous generation of X-E1s.
Classic design and intuitive operation
The X-E1 exudes flawless Japanese quality in every detail. The top and front panels are made of die-cast magnesium for a rugged yet sophisticated design.
Despite its vast array of functions, the new camera is relatively compact and weighs only 350 grams. The rubber grip provides a firm grip, allowing the lens to be positioned perfectly in the center of the body, which means equal weight distribution between the camera and lens during shooting.
FUJIFILM engineers placed priority on making the X-E1 as user friendly as possible. As on other models in the X series, the dials are conveniently textured on the top panel for smooth adjustments.
Users can turn the aperture ring on the lens with their left hand and operate the dials in the setup menu with their right hand, without having to take their eye off the viewfinder.
As mentioned before, it will be available in two colors. The X-E1 in silver is perfect for Hi-Tech enthusiasts, but is also a retro-inspired photographer. The black version is for people who appreciate style but want to keep a low profile.
Flawless clarity and brightness thanks to the OLED electronic viewfinder
Unlike the X-Pro1 which is famous for its hybrid viewfinder, the X-E1 boasts an OLED electronic viewfinder with a resolution of 2.36 million dots and high contrast ratio of 1:5000, one of the highest ratios available on digital cameras.
Viewfinder has a unique lens structure consisting of two glass elements and one double aspherical element, which combine with OLED technology to offer an incredibly high quality image.
Wide 25-degree angle of view lets you quickly and easily assess the scene you’re shooting. The embedding of a special soft resin-based material creates extra convenience for photographers who wear glasses.
Unique X-Trans CMOS sensor for exceptional color reproduction and high image resolution
X-E1’s sensor is the same high-performance 16M X-Trans CMOS found in the X Series flagship X-Pro1 model.
With a specially developed irregular color filter, the X-Trans CMOS sensor does not need the optical low-pass filter that conventional systems use to remove moire by reducing resolution.
Innovative array allows the X-Trans CMOS sensor to capture unfiltered light from the lens and deliver unprecedented resolution. Unique random positioning of the color filter also ensures effective suppression of noise in high-sensitivity shooting.
Another advantage of the large APS-C sensor is the ability to create a beautiful “bokeh” effect, the aesthetic out-of-focus effect created when shooting with a shallow depth of field. FUJIFILM’s innovative system ensures you get high-quality, high-resolution images that can withstand magnification up to 2700mm x 1800mm.

Additional design features have made it possible to mount the lens just 7.5mm higher than the body. The focal length has been shortened as much as possible in order to maintain a compact and lightweight design.

The X-E1 has film simulation modes that let you simulate the colors and tonal qualities of FUJIFILM’s award-winning films: Velvia for rich colors, ASTIA for brilliant soft skin tones, PROVIA for natural colors, PRO Neg for vivid skin tones, and LEXIK for vivid colors.Std – soft gradation of colors and brilliant rendering of skin tones
PRO Neg.Hi – more contrasting tones and saturated colors in relation to PRO Neg. Std. Monochrome mode is also available, either without a filter or with one of three filters: red, yellow or green. Sepia mode is available for retro effects.
In film cameras, multiple exposure is a unique photographic technique of superimposing one image on another by double exposing a frame. Thanks to advanced digital processing technology, the X-E1 can simulate this technique by selecting Multiple Exposure mode and shooting.
Shooting video
Shoot Full HD 1080p video at 24 frames per second. In addition to monochrome or other film simulation modes, take advantage of the X-E1’s large sensor and bright XF lenses to capture movies with beautiful, deep bokeh effects.
