All at your fingertips: the side table

For the stability of the side table to the sofa we used a construction of sandwich panels three-layer building material . The size of the table: height – 70 cm, width – 50 cm, depth – 50 cm.

What you will need:

– The Dremel DSM20 compact saw

– rectangular rail

– wood drill bit set 636

– Use a router bits HSS 6.4mm 654

– router attachment 335

– Linear routing scraper 678

– sanding pad and sanding belt SC407

– acacia wood furniture board 200x60x1.8 cm

– Glue and wood oil, self-tapping screws, clamps, sandpaper.

Step 1

Take a sheet of acacia wood furniture board, measure the individual parts, and mark up. You will need two 48.2×50.0 cm and one 62.8×50.0 cm boards for the underside of the table. For the top one, two 50.0×50.0 cm shields and another one 66.4×50.0 cm. Determine the size of the side table by yourself, based on the height of the armrest of your sofa. As a result, there should be two shields on each side of the table bottom, top and side . Cut with the Dremel DSM20 compact saw and use the right angled guide attachment supplied with the saw for straight and accurate lines and angles.

Step 2

Now make a recess on the table top on one of the top side panels for your devices smartphone, tablet . Use the Dremel 4200 with the router attachment, rectangular guide and the router bits HSS 6.4mm 654 . The size of the recesses can be different, depending on the size of the gadgets. In our case, they are 1.5 cm wide and 1.0 cm deep.

Step 3

Continuing with the tabletop: making a place for a mug, glass, or bottle. Remove your Dremel 4200 from the router attachment and attach the router bit 678 with the 6.4mm HSS cutter 654 . Using a cutting attachment a linear milling compass , make a circle with a diameter of 7 cm on the table top surface, then make a small depression to prevent the glass from falling off the table. Then glue the second layer of board to this part of the table top for the strength of the future side table.

Step 4

Now proceed to making a pocket for remotes, headphones, newspaper, etc. d. This should be set at a 15 degree angle. In this case, the size of the space for the remote control and magazines is 45 cm wide and 15 cm high. Next, sand all of the edges and holes with your Dremel 4200 and use the sanding attachment and sanding band SC407 . Sand the rest of the surface of the table with sandpaper. Attach the pocket to the side of the table with screws or glue .

Step 5

At this point, connect the bottom and top of the tabletop to the side with self-tapping screws or glue. The resulting construction can be attached to the armrest of the sofa. Now the compact side table is ready to use.
