Many people don’t even know this place! Actually it’s quite simple: the correct name for this place is Valle d’Aosta, located in this ancient paradise in the Italian Alps, not far from Milan.

Once upon a time the region’s capital was the famous town of Chamonix – now French. The coffee recipe has a slightly Americanized name, but otherwise keeps the spirit of Italy and antiquity. Moreover, this is a hot and hot drink in every sense – because Valle d’Aosta is located in the mountains, and there, you know, it’s always cool!

  • Will need:

4 cups very hot espresso,

3 shots grape vodka grappa ,

1 juniper liqueur can be replaced with red wine ,

sugar to taste.

  • Preparation:

The preparation is very simple: put all the ingredients in a glass, stir to combine and serve immediately. It is usually drunk from a wooden goblet with a handle, called a grolla.

Actually, mocha is a type of coffee, or rather, a variety of arabica. The name “mocha” comes from the Yemenite town of Moha, which flourished in the eighteenth century thanks to the expansion of coffee plantations and the coffee trade. Mocha, also called in Italian mochaccino, is made with cocoa or chocolate and hot milk.

  • Needed:

320 ml of hot unsweetened chocolate,

320 ml of foamed milk,

2 helpings of espresso,

sugar,

grated chocolate.

  • Preparation:

Prepare hot unsweetened chocolate and add foamed milk to it.

Pour the brewed mixture into two tall glasses. Slowly pour the espresso into the brewed coffee to create different colored layers. Add sugar to taste.

Garnish with grated chocolate.

Briel Portuguese Coffee

In Lisbon or any other city in Portugal you will not walk a hundred meters without coming across a cozy place where you can have a cup of fragrant espresso. Both children and adults drink coffee here morning, noon, evening and night. No wonder for a country whose former colonies Brazil, Angola, Timor produce the lion’s share of all world coffee!

The most common word for espresso in Portugal is “bica” and is well worth using in Portuguese cafes if you want to enjoy a proper Portuguese espresso. The thing is, when they say “espresso” Portuguese waiters usually try to ask whether they want a cappuccino, latte or something else.

In Portugal they think foreigners have a soft spot for espresso and prefer espresso-based drinks. Say “bica” and you will be understood. It took us a long time to choose a single recipe for Portuguese coffee, so we decided to “read the whole list”.

So:

  • Bica – a portion of espresso.
  • Italiana or Bica Curto – a stronger version of espresso reminiscent of an Italian ristretto .
  • Bica cheia – a weaker version like Italian lungo .
  • Ch&aacute vena Fria – the classic black espresso in a cold cup also called
  • Ch&aacute vena quente – classic black espresso in a hot cup.
  • Bica Dupla – a double bicca analog of the Italian doppio .
  • Caf&eacute Pingado – espresso brewed in hot water analogous to the Italian “Americano” , with a drop of hot milk served in a glass cup. This coffee is often called just Pingo.
  • Caf&eacute Longo – the same as pingado, but in a larger volume.
  • Gal&atilde o – about the same as an Italian latte the ratio of coffee to steamed or foamed milk is one to three.
  • Meio gal&atilde o is the same as the galao, only smaller.
  • Garoto – from the Portuguese word for “baby” – there is a lot of milk in this drink and children love it very much. It is made in the same way as galao, but with a much weaker espresso.
  • Bica com Cheirinho – bica with alcohol.
  • Caf&eacute com Leite Apart or Servi&ccedil o de Caf&eacute – A bika, to which hot milk is served separately.
  • Abatanado – a bicca with a little foamed milk.
  • Batido de Caf&eacute – A kind of coffee milkshake with various flavors.
  • Meia de Leite or sometimes also Caf&eacute com Leite – bica halved with hot milk.
  • Mazagram – a shot of espresso with sugar and lemon in a tall glass with ice.

And of course, the coffee itself. No recipe would be complete without perfectly roasted and properly ground fine coffee.
