Electrolux Design Lab 2013 - urban lifestyle inspires design solutions for appliances of the future

This year the Electrolux Design Lab invites you to get involved and join the exciting process of creating the appliances of the future.

Design students are invited to compete for a six-month internship and a cash prize by submitting their ideas that have the potential to model the image of the future.

The new competition theme “Inspiring an Urban Lifestyle” was inspired by the rapid urbanization that is resulting in a more compact living space, as an increasingly populated population is causing people to move from rural to densely populated urban areas. And the question to be answered: What role does design have today in the process of equipping and preparing people for the social adaptation voiced?

For the first time in the ten years of the competition, entrants are offered three variations on the main theme: Social Cooking, Fresh Air and Light Cleaning. In addition, the 2013 competition goes beyond just design to include service and consumable ideas.

“At Electrolux it is important for us to consider the design as broadly as possible: we are interested in all solutions that have an impact on the style and environment of our customers. That’s why we broadened the contest framework in 2013 and expect to see both product ideas and accessories, services, and consumables in the three main categories: Social Cooking, Fresh Air and Light Cleaning,” comments Stefano Marzano, Chief Design Officer at Electrolux.
