Electrolux announces Design Lab 2015 contest theme, prizes double!

New York, America, February 17, 2015 Electrolux announces a new theme for its popular international industrial design competition, which annually attracts more than 1,700 entries from 60 countries. In 2015, in its 13th year, Electrolux Design Lab announces a search for innovative ideas under the theme “Healthy Happy Kids. This year there are more reasons to join the contest – the prizes have been doubled: the winner will receive 10,000 euros and a six-month paid internship at Electrolux.

Lars Ericsson, Senior Vice President Design at Electrolux and chairman of the jury of the Electrolux Design Lab announced the contest: “Electrolux Design Lab is a very exciting contest that drives innovation, stimulates creativity and offers us a glimpse of the future of household appliances. It allows us to connect and collaborate with young, talented designers from around the world who have the potential to make a difference. In 2015, the Design Lab will focus on children with the theme “Healthy Happy Kids”. We look for new solutions and bold ideas to improve everyday life for families with children. I’m very inspired by the new challenge and I look forward to seeing what creative ideas there are. We officially announce the start of the competition!”

In 2015 the prizes are doubled

Electrolux Design Lab contest gives young, talented designers an opportunity to express themselves on the international stage, allows many of the contestants over time to get jobs and invitations to promising areas of design. The first prize of the competition is a six-month paid internship at Electrolux International Design Center. Half of last year’s winners went on to work for Electrolux after their internship. In addition, Design Lab also provides cash prizes, which have been significantly increased this year. The winner receives 10,000 euros, second place will receive a prize of 6,000 euros, and third place will receive 4,000 euros. The author of the idea with the most votes in the online voting will receive a €2,000 Audience Award.

Online voting leads to global glory

The competition seeks ideas for products, accessories, consumables and services in three key areas: cooking, fabric care and air cleaning. Taking part in the competition is very simple: participants must submit a description of their idea, a preliminary sketch illustrating the idea, and a description of the usefulness of their idea for consumers. The best concepts will be published on the Design Lab website and will also be promoted through social media, giving students the opportunity to bring their ideas to a wide audience around the world.Participation in all stages of the competition involves a lot of involvement: students will develop their project during the competition, publish and share new information, keep an online diary. They will be evaluated by Electrolux experts throughout the entire selection process. At the end of 2015, the winner of the contest will be selected by a jury of internationally recognized professionals.
