Electrolux announces 2015 Design Lab contest theme, prizes double!

Electrolux announces a new theme for its popular international industrial design competition, which annually attracts more than 1,700 entries from 60 countries. In 2015, in its 13th year of existence, the Electrolux Design Lab announces a search for innovative ideas under the theme “Healthy, Happy Kids”. This year there are more reasons to join the competition – the prizes are doubled: the winner will receive 10.000 euros and a six-month paid internship at Electrolux.

Lars Ericsson, Senior Vice President Design at Electrolux and the President of the jury of the Electrolux Design Lab announced the contest: “Electrolux Design Lab is a very exciting competition that encourages innovation, stimulates creativity and offers us a glimpse into the future of appliances. It allows us to connect and collaborate with young, talented designers from around the world who have the potential to make a difference. In 2015, the Design Lab will focus on children with the theme “Healthy Happy Kids”. We’re looking for new solutions and bold ideas to help improve the daily lives of families with children. I’m very inspired by this new challenge and I’m looking forward to seeing what creative ideas there are. We are officially announcing the contest!”

In 2015, the prizes have doubled

Electrolux Design Lab competition opens to young, talented designers the opportunity to express themselves in the international arena, allows many contestants in time to get jobs and invitations to promising areas of design activity. First prize is a six-month paid internship at Electrolux International Design Center. Half of last year’s winners went on to work for Electrolux after completing an internship. In addition, Design Lab also provides cash prizes, which have been significantly increased this year. The winner receives 10,000 euros, second place will receive a prize of 6,000 euros, and third place 4,000 euros. The author of the idea with the most votes during the online voting will receive a 2,000 euro People’s Choice Award.

Online voting leads to global glory

The competition seeks ideas for products, accessories, supplies and services in three key areas: cooking, fabric care and air cleaning. Taking part in the contest is very simple: participants should submit a description of their idea, a preliminary sketch illustrating the idea, and a description of the usefulness of their idea for consumers. The best concepts will be published on the Design Lab website and will also be promoted through social media, giving students the opportunity to bring their ideas to a wide audience around the world. Participation in all phases of the contest involves a great deal of involvement: students will develop their project during the contest, publish and share new information, keep an online diary. They will be assessed by Electrolux experts throughout the entire selection process. At the end of 2015, the winner will be selected by a jury of internationally recognized professionals.
