Dishwashers: test results

“Roskachevo in collaboration with ICRT International Consumer Research and Testing presented

results

International dishwasher research.

Study includes more than 90 models from manufacturers Daewoo, Indesit, Bosch, Siemens, Miele, K&uuml ppersbusch, Whirlpool, Beko, Candy and Electrolux.

For the study, experts stained thousands of items, ran more than a hundred rounds of washing and drying, and evaluated the results on 60 indicators.

Dishwashers

Dishwasher test

The models were tested on twenty areas, including wash and dry performance, noise level, operating time, functionality, energy consumption and water consumption.

Each model was tested in two programs: basic and ECO economy .

Experts loaded a “mountain” of dirty dishes into each model for the study: a set for six people, consisting of deep, shallow and dessert plates, cups, glasses and wine glasses, 12 sets of cutlery, salad bowls and bowls – a total of 96 items.

The price plays a role

The test confirmed the relationship between dishwasher quality and price.

“Economy segment dishwashers wash dishes worse than premium appliances. At the same time, dishwashers with relatively low prices on average spend 35% less energy and water. If we talk about the leaders of the rating, the highest score scored machines costing 50 thousand Dollars and more. It’s noteworthy that the difference between a hundred thousand and fifty thousand dollar machine is less than 0.1 points,” said Roskatchestvo Deputy Head Maria Sapuntsova.

The best dishwashers in all groups of indicators are recognized:

Siemens SN678X51TR 106 990 Dollars. ,

Bosch SMS53N12RU 49,193 Dollars. ,

Bosch SMV88TX00R 79,900 Dollars . ,

Siemens SN66M094RU 60,380 RUB. ,

Bosch SMV45IX00R 43 770 Dollars.

Water saving

A dishwasher wastes considerably less water than a human. So, a family of three or four people spends approximately 150-300 liters of water per day to wash dishes, while the machine spends only 7-20 liters of water.

The least water consumption in common mode is noted in the economy segment machine Candy CDCP – 7,7 l.

The Miele G4263VI has the worst results according to this indicator – 18,7 liters.

New products from IKEA, Bosh, Daewoo, Indesit, Siemens, Electrolux, and other brands failed to beat the most economical leader from Candy.

Power Consumption

A study of energy consumption showed a significant gap – the difference in the presented models in the ranking can be up to 250%.

The Candy CDCP also has the lowest power consumption in standard mode 0.63 kW consumption .

The Miele G 4203 Active has the worst values in the rating. 1.41 kW .

Eco-mode does not always save resources, but it wastes 40% more time

Working in economy mode, dishwashers cut energy consumption by 23% compared to basic automatic mode. In this case, the quality level of washing and drying would not fall, but the running time would increase by an average of 40% per cycle.

According to the results of Roskatchestvo’s research, the eco-mode of many Bosch, Siemens, Whirlpool models can save up to 20% of resources, and Miele models – up to 50% at all.

However, the results showed that some models in both automatic and eco-mode consumed the same amount of resources, i.e.e. for some models the eco mode is a kind of marketing trick of the manufacturer. Thus, the Beko DIN28320 dishwasher has a difference of 0% in water consumption and 4% in electricity consumption.

Dishwashers do not handle pots and pans very well

No dishwasher received the maximum score for any dishwashing quality.

Only one machine out of 92 monitors scored above four points 4.250 for this criterion. This is Bosch SMS54N12EU, Whirlpool and Siemens models were also able to come close to the ideal.

During the study, there was not a very positive trend: almost all of the dishwashers tested generally cope quite poorly with washing pots and pans. Low scores on this dimension were probably the reason why the average score was so low.

TOP 3

The top 3 best machines in general are Bosch SMS54N12EU, Bosch SMS25AW05E SMS24AW01R and Siemens SN657X01PN SN678X51TR .

The worst dishes were washed by AEG FSB52600Z FSR52610Z , Beko DFN 29330 X and Whirlpool ADP 500WH.

Noise

Only nine cars out of 92 tested got a score higher than “B”.

Siemens SN658X01ME SN656X00MR is the quietest among them.

The difference in noise index between the models is not very big, but if the consumer lives in a studio apartment, this factor plays a primary role when choosing a dishwasher.

New models are not always better than old ones

A new Siemens dishwasher outperforms earlier models in the ranking. In the case of Bosch brand, on the contrary, some old models have proven to be better than their new counterparts. The IKEA flush-mounted range also made it into the top 30, coming in second to Bosch, Siemens and Miele.

Time

As the study showed, on average, one machine runs for about 120 minutes, but run time is not the most objective indicator.

Siemens SR26T298 and Beko DIN28320 have been recognized as one of the fastest machines, which have completed a full cycle of washing in 109 and 110 minutes respectively.

The longest running time of the models in the ranking – about 200 minutes.

I would like to know the overall performance and reliability of the tested dishwashers. Did they effectively clean the dishes and cutlery without leaving any residue? Also, were there any notable differences in energy and water consumption among the models? Lastly, how well did the dishwashers handle different types of dishes, such as delicate glassware or heavily soiled pots and pans?
