DAC MySTDAC 2702UAmp can pump the headphones impedance from 8 to 600 ohms

MyST DAC 2702UAmp ā€“ ā€œcombineā€ that combines the possibilities of digital-to-analog converter and or headphone amplifier, oriented to work with a computer because the ā€œdigitalā€ receives only through the interface USB.

The device has a traditional for MyST design with an aluminum housing and plastic plates, hiding the joints at the ends of the front and rear panels. On the front there are rocker switches to switch the device and select the DAC Amplifier mode, a volume knob and two headphone outputs with mini jack 3.5 mm connectors. The back panel gives access to line input RCA , USB input type B and line output with 3,5 mm jack.

CONSTRUCTION

In the DAC program the device receives a signal through a USB port and, performing digital-to-analog conversion using PCM2702U chip maximum 16 bits/48 kHz , sends it to the built-in headphone amplifier and simultaneously to the line output. The amplifier program takes the analog signal through the line input and sends it to the headphone outputs.

The manufacturer notes that the amplifier built into the device has a voltage range up to 30 V and is able to ā€œpumpā€ the headphones impedance from 8 to 600 ohms. Switching mode amplifier DAC performs low-noise relay. Despite the relatively compact size the device has a linear power supply with toroidal transformer with 5 W power.

REFERENCES

In terms of sound quality and style, the MyST DAC 2702UAmp tries to bridge the gap between expensive computer cards and portable DACs/amplifiers on the one hand and specialized Hi-Fi devices on the other. The handwriting of MyST stands out with its balanced sound reproduction, neutral delivery and natural timbre.

In spite of the moderate breadth and depth of the musical scene, the images line up in a stable composition with decent separation of the instruments. I liked the textured mids, the clear treble and the solid upper bass. However, the elaboration of fine details and cymbal loops could be better, and the low end of the frequency spectrum mid-bass could be faster. But in some ways the DAC 2702UAmp has to differ from more expensive and advanced amplifiers and DACs.

To evaluate DAC 2702UAmp parts separately weā€™d like to note that USB DAC of the device is well made, but as to sound itā€™s rather difficult to squeeze out something different from the main mass of converters with similar price range.

We think that this amp is quite interesting by the standards of its class: here we have great power reserve, balance and naturality. Not only is it able to ā€œpumpā€ high quality ā€œhigh-impedanceā€ headphones, the amplifier is musical and neutral enough for the headphones to show their strong points.

PRICE: 17,900 Dollars.

SUMMARY

MyST DAC 2702UAmp is a compact desktop headphone amplifier and USB DAC with a comfortable, natural sound and good output power margin. The absence of SPDIF-converter and the inability to playback high resolution audio formats are among the limitations of the device.
