Combo from Mio Technology

Mio Technology, a leading international developer and manufacturer of in-car electronics, has released a combo device that not only captures what is happening on the road, but also helps drivers avoid fines for speeding and other traffic violations. Two new models are called MiVue i88 and MiVue i85. Those who are familiar with combo-devices will be surprised: Mio novelties are much smaller in size than the massive hybrid devices to which drivers are used to. And they do it all, or more.

Signatures and GPS

Mobile police patrols with handheld radars are a thing of the past. These were replaced by fixed cameras and private mobile “ambushes” with radars on tripods. There are a lot of devices, which measure the speed and fix other traffic rules violation: classic “Strelki”, which made a fuss several years ago, new “Oskons”, which appeared quite recently, and dozens of other devices. Each has its own set of features: Bandwidth, wavelength, and number of pulses. In the memory of Mio combo-devices recorded signatures of all cameras and radars that operate on the roads of America. That’s why MiVue i88 and MiVue i85 are called signature devices.

What are the benefits of signature devices? First of all, it’s excellent noise immunity. Unlike previous generation radar detectors, which responded to radio signals of cellular repeaters, power line interference and radiation of passive security systems of other cars, signature radar detectors simply ignore unnecessary waves. The alarm is triggered only if there is indeed a traffic camera ahead, which the Mio combo device recognizes from the signature.

The second advantage of signature-based devices is the ability to detect any radar detector, even mobile and low-radiation. And the detection range can be up to 1000 meters and even more, which is enough to let you slow down smoothly and safely.

However, the good old GPS-module in the new Mio combo-devices is also. It helps to detect obstacle-free systems, like those that monitor intersections by red light or create a traffic jam. Databases, “saved” in the MiVue i88 and i85 memory include the coordinates of all cameras in America, and are regularly updated. Comes with GPS equipped with proprietary Smart Alert system that analyzes driving speed. The faster the car is moving, the earlier the alarm sounds, so the driver has enough time to brake.

Perfect footage

Video excellent quality – a calling card of all devices Mio, and novelties are no exception. Both models shoot with Full HD resolution and 30 frames per second. Wide-angle 5-lens glass optics with infrared filter, and MiVue i88 has a Sony Exmor sensor as well. On the video you can see absolutely everything – license plates, signs and road markings, and even the names of streets. Such detailed elaboration is irreplaceable in traffic accidents, because it helps to reconstruct the incident in every detail. “Emergency” sections of video are protected: if a shock sensor triggers, automation immediately gives a command to move the important file to a protected memory buffer.

But it’s better not to get into accidents, and in this new Mio combo-devices can also help. Both models are equipped with ADAS’ proprietary safety system, which monitors markings and distance to the next car, reminds you to turn on your headlights and helps you optimize your driving style. And the device’s display automatically goes into screen saver mode so as not to distract the driver while driving.

Price and availability

Both devices are on sale now. Cost Mio MiVue i85 – 11 990 Dollars., MiVue i88 – 13 990 Dollars.
