What is a vacuum cleaner-avaboxer?

The aqua box is an ergonomic THOMAS technical solution: a patented aquafilter enclosed in a handy plastic box with a lid. In the aquafilter the water filtration of the air takes place, as a result of which all the dust and dirt that comes with it gets wet and sinks to the bottom of the container, and the presence of a cover helps you to easily and quickly release the device from the garbage: you need to fill it with 1 liter of water, close the lid, shake the aquabox several times vigorously and pour the dirty water into the toilet.

Aquabox doesn’t just help remove dust from surfaces, it cleans and humidifies the air and minimizes the load on the HEPA filter installed at the air outlet. In the word “aqua-boxer” the accent is put in the same place as in “aqua-box”, but during the test we called it “aqua-boxer”: it was so formidable when it fought the dirt.

Test 1. Ergonomic design

One of the most comfortable THOMAS models we have tested. First, the vacuum cleaner is compact and lightweight: its dimensions are only 318x467x294 mm, net weight – 7.5 kg. Secondly, very well thought out the entire system of assembly, connection-disconnection: the hose and nozzles are not just put on, and have convenient fasteners and locks, all manipulation takes place in seconds, without effort and nail breakage.

The body opens with a flip of a button, and the aqua box is pulled out by the handle. Thirdly, it is possible to park the tube vertically on the housing, put it in a special slot and you’re ready: the tube will not roll on the floor, if necessary to make a pause in cleaning.

And a lot of little things, which, if you think about it, are not the smallest things, but a sign of care about the consumer and a sign of true German quality. For example, there is a bumper that protects furniture from shocks, cable winds up automatically, and easily without any buttons, 360 ° swivel castors make vacuum cleaner super maneuverable, and a long wire and telescopic stainless steel tube provides a range of 11-meter – no need to change the socket during cleaning.

A separate topic – the design of nozzles. It seems, the usual set though expanded – the basic “floor mop”, turbo brush for upholstered furniture, crevice, brush for cabinet furniture and equipment. But how they are made! The foot switch on the main nozzle is soft, comfortable and does not jam or spontaneously shift as it often does.

Soft brush nozzle for furniture has four positions of rotation – you can choose the ideal position and clean cabinet furniture and equipment at a comfortable angle. The 360 mm long slot nozzle is about 1.5 times longer than standard slot nozzles, and therefore can reach places where they are helpless. The extended width 190 mm of the upholstered furniture mop ensures thorough cleaning of hair and threads with a special tool, the thread remover.

Test 2. Ergonomic controls

Weatherproof soft buttons on the body allows you to turn the vacuum on/off and infinitely adjust the power 4 levels . The handle has soft on/off and “+” and “-” buttons that can be used to turn the power up or down.

There is also a mechanical airflow regulator on the handle, it is soft, does not jam, and opens and closes effortlessly.

Test 3. Cleaning animal hair

This model name contains the word “animal” in its title, i.e. it is designed for pets. To remove their hair from the floor and carpets, it has a large and wide turbo brush, whose roll turns under the influence of a powerful stream of air. We can say for sure that the problem of reduced suction power when the dust bag is full, and thus a slow-down in roller rotation, does not occur with this model.

The maximum and even medium power ratings are impressive, but the most important thing is that with the Aquabox, there is virtually no reduction in suction power when vacuuming.

We did the test with a rather prickly doormat, it has some amazing dirt grip ability. Two terribly furry animals, a Norwegian Forest Cat and a husky dog, have been spread and then compacted on it. The Turbo Brush is not only good, it’s brilliant!. We could not find anything to complain about.

The turbo brush roll is designed so that it not only coils hair and hair well, but also easy to clean: the bristles are arranged freely enough. The only downside is that it doesn’t come out all the way, but maybe with the way the bristles are arranged it’s not necessary. In addition, the turbo brush has a removable transparent cover, so the roller is easy to clean without pulling it out of the body.

Test 4. For dry vacuuming

We made a video about this vacuum cleaner you can watch it on our site bt-test and we wanted to deliberately dirty the floor more. The shooting took place at the editor-in-chief’s home, and he and his household actively participated in the experiment: they brought soil from a flower pot, poured some grits, crumbled the cookies, and even dried nettles were used – some of them were poured not in the soup, but on the floor. We have even organized a competition to see whose trash the vacuum cleaner can cope with the worst. We turned on a vacuum cleaner and realized: wasted effort, won THOMAS, cleaning even a large amount of dry garbage from the floor for him – a matter of seconds. Even at minimum power.

For dry cleaning, we filled the Aquabox with water to the “minimum” mark that’s 1 liter . After the test hit the dirt vacuumed further, just for the fun of it, because it’s nice to see the room getting cleaner. Breathing after cleaning is easier – this was noted by all present.

Test 5. Sucking up the spilled liquid

Also takes seconds. Model can handle 1-2 liters of spilled liquid, depending on the situation. If you are cleaning normally when the Aquabox is filled with a liter of water and you need to clean up a spilled puddle, for example, in the kitchen or liquid mud in the hallway, then the volume of this puddle should be up to 1 liter. And if you need to collect water in an emergency, you put an insert in the Aquabox it’s without water and collect 2 liters of water.

There is a sensor in the float insert that turns off the vacuum cleaner when there is more than 2 liters of water in the container – it is a protection of the motor from flooding, it is triggered only if the insert with the float is installed. In this case you need to pour water out of the Aquabox – and you can pump it out again.

At first we were collecting water spilled on the tiles in the toilet – very quickly. And then poured water into a large container and repeated the experience, in this case, it takes 1-2 seconds. The manufacturer recommends you to install the special splashing nozzle in the Aquabox when evacuating the liquid. Of course, the nozzle should be removed and it should be made sure that there is no water in the Aquabox.

Test 6. Maneuverability

The children present at the test were terribly happy that the model is so bright, somehow sunny and cheerful. “And this THOMAS can dance?”The chief’s daughter asked us: what if you want to see if the vacuum cleaner has 360°swiveling rollers – what if it really dances??

And, as they say, “Here we go”: We drove our THOMAS back and forth, all around the perimeter, around the circle and diagonally, made it twist and turn around quickly: it obediently followed all our “commands. Bumped into the dining table, looked – nothing, not a scratch on the leg or on the vacuum cleaner, saved by the bumper on the body.

Keep dancing. If someone is frightened: “There’s water in there!! Now all the dirt will splash out!”Had to calm down, open the lid of the case and show that everything is fine: after all Aquabox is equipped with a tightly closing lid, you can maneuver as you like, the main thing – do not put with water in the Aquabox in the vertical parking position.

Test 7. How to care for your AquaBox

If you do it correctly, the Aquabox and its surroundings don’t get dirty, but it collects a lot of trash. The main mistake you can make if you don’t read the instructions carefully is to insert the splashguard into the Aquabox and dry clean in that state. We made that mistake at first – we repent, we were in a hurry, and even the experience of testing THOMAS models over and over again didn’t help!

As the manufacturer explains, this makes the aquafilter perform worse, the load on the HEPA filter increases manifold, and the Aquabox itself gets excessively dirty. So, if you do everything according to the rules, without this insert it is needed only for collecting liquids , then the care of Aquabox is quite simple: a liter of water is poured into it, it is shaken and dirty water is poured into the toilet bowl. We did so: we opened it and checked it: almost clean. Of course we rinsed the Aquabox again, opened the lid and put it back to dry.

Interestingly, the HEPA filters in THOMAS Aquaboxes are washable. We didn’t wash it, because we haven’t used it for a long time and it just didn’t have time to get very dirty. By the way, with the Aquabox doing all the hard work, it doesn’t get dirty at all, even with prolonged use.

Compactness, maneuverability, Aquabox and as a result fresh air after cleaning, high suction power, convenient control, well-thought-out construction of the hose and handle, excellent turbo brush, huge working radius, HEPA-filter, positive design.

No turbo brush for upholstered furniture but it can be purchased . Remember, a vacuum cleaner with a full AquaBox should never be placed in the upright position.
