Casio Computer Co.”and its subsidiary Casio Europe GmbH have announced a new model in the EXILIM range of high-speed digital cameras, the EX-ZR1000. The model is equipped with a 24 mm*1 Wide-angle lens with 12.5x optical zoom, and inherited the famous high-speed performance of the High Speed EXILIM line of cameras. The camera has also received a new high-quality user graphic interface. Among the all-new features are a mode dial and a tilting LCD display, which have significantly improved handling and shooting performance over previous EXILIM models.
The flagship EX-ZR1000 gets a new graphical user interface and accessories, as well as new features that unlock the full potential of high-speed shooting technology.
When Casio launched the EX-F1 in 2008, its continuous shooting speed of 60 frames per second was the fastest in the world*2. This product has created a new market for Casio’s proprietary EXILIM high-speed shooting technology, which captures movement beyond the reach of the human eye. Later, “Casio” combined the technology of high-speed shooting and high-speed image processing, creating in 2010 a new processor EXILIM ENGINE HS. This processor was the heart of the EX-ZR10, a high-performance camera that outperformed traditional digital cameras in terms of shooting response speed and burst shooting speed itself.
With the new EX-ZR1000, Casio aimed to embody a compact digital camera that could admirably capture and store any. The new camera represents the third generation of Casio’s High Speed EXILIM line and features the EXILIM ENGINE HS processor with the latest development – the “TRIPLE ZERO” system, which eliminates delays in response, image blur and camera flutter.
EX-ZR1000 offers high-speed functions, 0.99-sec. turn-on time*3, High-speed autofocus of 0.15 sec*4 and interframe shooting time as short as 0.26 sec*5. The camera has a user-friendly graphical interface which enables simple and intuitive operation and makes shooting fun and relaxing.
Various new features take advantage of the GUI, including a mode dial with zoom lever under your left hand, graphical gauges, synchro dial and a tilt-up LCD that lets you shoot from multiple angles. All these features together make camera operation quick and easy.
Corresponding to the new stage of Casio’s High Speed EXILIM series of cameras, the new EX-ZR1000 has a full set of functions for instant “TRIPLE ZERO” operation. These include continuous autofocus where the camera automatically focuses on moving subjects even during continuous shooting, and macro all-in-focus for beautiful photos where every part of the picture is in focus – from objects in the foreground to the background scenery.
Also features a fast-action night mode to suppress camera shake in low-light conditions even at the maximum ISO level of 25600.
When the EX-ZR1000 goes on sale, you will also be able to buy the EXILIM 10th Anniversary Gift Set, which includes a genuine leather camera case and lanyard.
New system based on EXILIM Engine HS Version 3
The EX-ZR1000 uses Casio’s new EXILIM Engine HS Version 3 system, which consists of a reconfigurable processor and vector graphics processing core. The processing power of the core is used to build high-quality 2D images, and the reconfigurable processor combines high-performance functions and high-speed processing thanks to two computing cores, two parallel graphics processors and a host of other state-of-the-art technologies.
All of these enhancements have resulted in the highest shooting speeds to date, including a 0.99-second trigger speed*6, Fast auto focus 0.15 seconds*7, And interframe time as short as 0.26 sec*8. The camera also stands out with its high-quality graphical user interface. The display has wide viewing angles and provides intuitive camera operation.
Mode dial and control dial for intuitive, quick operation
“Casio equipped the EX-ZR1000 with a new graphical user interface and harmonized the nomenclature for more intuitive operation. In addition to the normal zoom, users can also use the 9-step “Step Zoom” controlled by the mode dial on the lens barrel. so you can take great shots by pressing the shutter button with your right hand and zooming with your left.
A mode dial also lets you set exposure compensation EV , shutter speed, white balance, or focus in manual mode. In addition, the control dial next to the LCD display is synchronized with all shooting parameters displayed on it and allows you to quickly change parameters while looking at the display.
Camera stand and tiltable LCD display allow you to shoot from different angles
The EX-ZR1000’s LCD can be tilted 180°, allowing the user to take pictures from different angles, as well as taking self-portraits when the LCD is rotated 180°. If you’re away from the camera, a self-portrait can also be taken thanks to Motion Shutter, which automatically releases the shutter when motion is detected. In addition, the built in stand lets you mount the camera in portrait or landscape mode for even more shooting possibilities.
Photography for success
Using a wrist strap and a tilting LCD screen with a fixed focus allows you to shoot without wasting time focusing.
In continuous auto focus mode, moving objects are in focus even during continuous shooting
Casio engineers have increased the autofocus AF shooting speed and optimized the lens drive, sensor and AF algorithms for parallel processing of AF operations and high-speed burst shooting. It’s all about getting up to 30 frames per second in continuous burst mode with autofocus at up to 6 frames per second. Thanks to these features, you can take clear pictures of moving objects, such as children or animals.
“Macro all-in-focus” and background blur for full control of focus during high-speed burst shooting
The EX-ZR1000 digital camera has an “all-in-focus macro” function that selects only the sharp areas from a series of shots taken at different focus settings and compiles a final composite image. This allows you to take photos with sharpness across the entire frame, from objects in the foreground to far backgrounds, something that is very difficult to achieve with a normal camera.
Casio also used its high-speed burst shooting technology to create a blurred background, an original technique for processing the background of a shot to achieve a faint blur effect. This blur is similar to what a DSLR camera does, allowing you to further emphasize the subject. Users can select from three different levels of blur effect by adjusting the degree of out-of-focus background.
Premium Auto PRO lets you take beautiful photos with just a press of the shutter release button
Premium Auto PRO automatically analyzes the scene, sets optimal shooting parameters, and performs image processing. It automatically combines the frames of a high-speed burst according to the shooting conditions, creating spectacular photos. All you have to do to take an exquisite photo is press the shutter button.
When shooting a high-contrast scene, the camera will independently activate the HDR function that combines frames with different exposures, when shooting night scenes, the speed night shooting, and when shooting high zooms, the speed blur prevention function.
The two latter functions “stitch” together a series of frames shot at high sensitivities, with minimal camera shake. All of which reduces noise in the final image. When shooting video, Premium Auto Movie automatically analyzes the scene being shot while recognizing people, landscapes, distinctive night scenes, macro shots, blue skies, green trees and twilight.
HDR technology reproduces images exactly as they look, avoiding over- and underexposure
Thanks to Casio’s HDR technology, each press of the shutter release saves multiple frames with different exposure settings and permanently combines them into a single image with a wide dynamic range. This minimizes over- and underexposed areas in the image, allowing you to create a photo that preserves the rich tonal transitions of the scene in a natural way.
High-speed night shooting prevents camera shake even in low light
The EX-ZR1000 detects shooting conditions with Casio’s high-speed night shooting technology and automatically switches to high-speed burst mode, increasing the sensitivity up to ISO 25600 when necessary. High-precision leveling technology eliminates any low-frequency camera shake that the Anti Shake Optical Correction cannot cope with.
Casio’s latest image-processing technology also completely eliminates low-frequency color noise, which is usually very hard for cameras to eliminate. All these technologies work together to create beautiful pictures with minimal blur, even in low-light conditions.
HDR-ART for artistic photography. Freedom to create artistic photographs with ART Shot
Artistic photos can be created with HDR-ART, which combines burst shots with different exposures and performs advanced analysis to locally alter the intensity of contrast and color saturation. The user can now choose from five different levels of artistic effect to freely create expressive images, as two more levels have been added to the three previously available.
These two new levels use state-of-the-art tonal imaging technology for impressive gradations of brightness and, as a result, more dynamic shots. In addition, ART Shot mode offers eight different filters to create the artistic shots you desire: pinhole photography, soft focus, high key, pop art, sepia, black and white, miniature and fisheye lens effects.
The user can change the application level and color of each filter, and view the display and adjust the expected results before taking the picture. Most enjoyably, all of these filters can also be used when shooting video.
One press of the shutter button saves the shot with or without a filter
HDR-ART captures two images simultaneously – a filtered image and a standard image – with a single press of the shutter button.
Wide-angle shot brings pictures to life
The EX-ZR1000 combines frames taken in high-speed burst mode when the user swipes the camera to produce ultra-wide-angle photos. Two wide-angle modes are available – 14mm or 18mm.
“Slide Panorama for creating circular panoramic images
Recognizes moving subjects or human faces and focuses on them even as the camera sweeps through the panorama shots, resulting in panoramic images with minimal blur.
Proprietary super-resolution multiframe zoom technology with exceptional clarity maintains superior image quality up to a maximum of 25x zoom
Wide-angle 24mm lens with 12.5x optical zoom, using Multi SR Zoom technology to combine multiple frames to deliver the image quality required for high-resolution photos, has a focal length equivalent to 25x optical zoom.
Capture the way you want and enjoy it all with manual control and Raw mode
The camera has a range of manual shooting functions, like shutter priority, aperture priority or fully manual exposure. The EX-ZR1000 also has a Raw image saving mode. EXILIM Engine HS makes this function available for the first time in the High Speed EXILIM series.
Mode dial for quick access to shooting modes
The EX-ZR1000 has a mode dial that provides a quick selection of 10 shooting modes, including Premium Auto PRO, ART a combination of HDR ART and Art Shot , and a custom mode that lets you store a custom set of shooting settings.
