Dual Pixel CMOS AF

When using the Canon EOS-1D X Mark III as a mirrorless camera in Live View mode , autofocus is performed by our renowned Dual Pixel CMOS AF system. It converts every pixel on the camera’s image sensor into an image shaping pixel and an autofocus pixel with phase detection.

Dual Pixel CMOS AF enables fast focusing and tracking when photographing, and smoother focusing when filming movies, with “soft” focus transfer between subjects.

Canon EOS-1D X Mark III features Dual Pixel CMOS AF technology that detects focusable pixels across the full height of the frame and across 90% of its width. Camera performance reaches a level where photographers can create 20 frames per second. with fast and accurate continuous focus. Dual Pixel CMOS AF is also available with the depth learning autofocus algorithm used with the viewfinder – you can be sure that the subject will remain as clear as possible in any situation, whether it’s a wild animal or human.

When shooting video, Dual Pixel AF ensures smooth focusing on selected subjects using the touch screen or mobile device screen with the Canon Camera Connect app. The focus system tracks faces and other objects as they move in the frame, and returns focus to them to provide the clarity you need. You can even choose which eye to prioritize when focusing, or let the camera choose the one closest to it.
