Canon’s photographic lenses learn continuous autofocus in movie mode

New York, America, June 8, 2012. – Canon today introduced two new compact and lightweight lenses – the EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM and EF 40mm f/2.8 STM. New features, including continuous autofocus in movie mode, deliver high image quality and ease of use, enabling you to capture any subject in stills or movies regardless of your shooting experience.

EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM and EF 40mm f/2.8 STMs don’t just let you continuously control focus manually in stills, they also help you focus more precisely in movies.

These lenses are perfectly matched to the new EOS 650D, as they feature new stepping motors STM that enable fast, uninterrupted focusing when photographing moving subjects, making your movies look crisper and smoother than ever.

Enhanced rapid and accurate autofocus ensures even spontaneous shots are incredibly sharp and beautifully detailed. . Especially useful in documentary, action or travel photography.

At a focal length of 18-135mm EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM is a compact and versatile zoom lens, ready to capture everything from portraits to landscapes and action shots. Four-stage Intelligent Optical Image Stabilizer ensures the EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM high picture quality even at slow shutter speeds.

The lens also determines whether you’re shooting normal or panoramic images, selecting the optimal image stabilization mode for the perfect result. Dynamic Image Stabilizer is automatically engaged during movie recording, counteracting the effects of camera shake when you move, for more stable footage.

The round aperture of the EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM ensures soft out-of-focus background effects in stills and movies, while electromagnetic control ensures precise aperture setting.

Four lens groups with one ultra-low-dispersion element and one precision-molded element provide high image quality throughout the entire focal length range. All lens elements feature Canon’s Super Spectra lens coatings, which reduce ghost and flare effects and minimise the need for additional image processing.

Model EF 40mm f/2.8 STM, Canon’s first “flat” lens in the EF series, with a fixed focal length of 40mm and a fast f/2.8, ideal for those needing a versatile, compact and lightweight lens for portraits, reportage, travel and landscape.

Electromagnetic precision control of the circular seven-blade aperture creates a smooth blurred background effect, while the Super Spectra coated aspherical lens ensures optimal image quality in both the center and the periphery, ensuring great images regardless of the subject.
