Canonā€™s EOS 650D DSLR shoots a posteriori with a rich color palette and excellent detail

New York, America, June 8, 2012. ā€“ Canon today unveiled the new EOS 650D DSLR, which delivers superb image quality with the convenience of a touch-screen control. Anyone can now shoot beautiful stills and Full HD movies with the EOS 650D. This model is perfect for beginners. Combines intelligent automatic modes and a choice of advanced features, so you can shoot straight out of the box today and enjoy a wider range of manual modes tomorrow.

SLR cameras

EOS 650D, the first EOS camera to offer a dual autofocus system for capturing a striking wealth of detail and constant tracking autofocus in movies. At the heart of the camera is an 18-megapixel CMOS hybrid sensor and a powerful DIGIC 5 processor, which produces sharp, high-resolution images at up to 5fps continuous shooting. A tilting touch screen makes it easy to operate the camera with instant access to a number of settings and modes.

Brilliant quality in all conditions

The EOS 650D delivers outstanding image quality and performance. New 18MP APS-C CMOS hybrid sensor delivers the highest resolution for poster size images with rich color reproduction and fine detail.

Ideal for low-light shooting without flash, offering an ISO range of 100-12,800 for natural, low-noise shots, and extending the ISO range to 25,600 for even more challenging low-light conditions.

The EOS 650D is the first entry-level model in the EOS line, and is powered by Canonā€™s DIGIC 5 processor, offering high-speed, responsive performance and high-quality color reproduction. 14-bit DIGIC 5 image processing for smooth transitions in tones of color, such as the tones of a sunset sky. High-speed shooting captures fast-moving action, such as at soccer games or other sporting events.

New dual autofocus system lets you take sharp pictures of everything, whether youā€™re shooting stills or video. Advanced 9-point autofocus system with central crosshairs delivers outstanding performance in still photography, high sharpness in sports, fast-moving action and wildlife. In addition, the new hybrid autofocus system guarantees continuous autofocus during video recording and Live View shooting[i].

Touch operation and vari-angle display

Capturing the perfect shot has never been easier thanks to the new 7.7cm 3.0ā€³ Vari-angle Clear View LCD II Touch Panel.

Highly responsive capacitive screen technology supports multi-touch gestures such as two-finger pinch and swipe, making it easy to interact with menus and even let you take a picture with a touch of the screen.

Touch control brings a whole new dimension to Live View photography. You can select autofocus points, enable face and subject tracking, and select precise image settings via the Quick Control screen.

Navigation is simple and responsive and the two-finger zoom function lets you see every detail when reviewing your footage. Variable angle and rotatability of the screen lets you place it virtually anywhere, and the high quality 1040,000-dot display delivers crystal-clear detail.

EOS Movie: enhanced with continuous autofocus

Full HD 1920x1080p movies are shot comfortably and effortlessly with the EOS 650D. Hybrid autofocus allows the operator to focus on the job at hand while the camera follows the main subject.

New EF-S 18-135mm f/3 lenses.5-5.6 IS STM and EF 40mm f/2.8 STMs are ideal for movies, thanks to a near-silent stepping motor for the smoothest, sharpest movies ever.

Video Snapshot mode lets you create interesting, fast-moving, professional-looking videos. Video clips can be two, four or eight seconds long.They can be reordered when combined into a movie. A built-in mini-HDMI port makes it easy to transfer footage to any high-definition TV.

Explore with EOS

Two new shooting modes give those just starting out in low light. HDR Backlight Control brings beautiful backlight scenes into play by capturing the same scene with varying exposures ā€“ low, high and high ā€“ merging the result into a single high-resolution image that reveals both highlights and shadows. Handheld Night Scene mode lets you take beautiful shots in dim evening light without a tripod, capturing four frames and merging them into one detailed, blur-free image.

Full range of shooting modes allow you to push the boundaries of creativity. Basic+ mode lets you go beyond just the basics, giving you access to a range of features that can quickly and noticeably change the style of your shot.

Canonā€™s full range of creative filters can now be applied to images using the touch screen, and there are two new effects ā€“ Art Bold and Water Painting ā€“ to add colour to your shots.

And if you just want to select and frame your shot, Intelligent Scene Recognition Auto will analyse the view and automatically pick the best settings, so you get great shots without the hassle.
