Canon is proud to announce that its interchangeable-lens digital cameras DSLR and mirrorless have once again maintained global market leadership and thus held the top spot for the 17th consecutive year, from 2003 to 2019.
In developing the key components of the imaging system for EOS interchangeable lens cameras – CMOS sensors, image processors and lenses – Canon’s guiding principle is “Speed, Convenience and High Image Quality”. Developing a wide range of products, from flagship models with unique specifications trusted by professionals to entry-level cameras that allow the user to create high-quality images with ease, Canon has consistently supported the diverse needs of photographers around the world.
In September 2003, when digital SLR cameras were just hitting the market, Canon introduced a revolutionary model, the EOS 300D. This revolutionary compact and lightweight camera was priced competitively and became a global market leader, setting the stage for growth in the interchangeable-lens digital SLR segment. Since then, Canon has produced a number of legendary products, such as the professional EOS-1D and EOS 5D series, which paved the way for digital SLR cameras to enter the world of video.
In October 2018, Canon unveiled the EOS R system, which opened up new possibilities for creative photography. New family including the full-frame mirrorless EOS R and usa lenses, taking full advantage of the company’s expertise in optical technology, and making a vital contribution to the development of the Canon EOS System.
Canon launched a number of attractive products in 2019, including the EOS RP full-frame mirrorless camera March and the EOS 90D digital single-lens reflex camera September . Thanks to the successful expansion of its lineup, Canon retained its global market leadership for the 17th consecutive year.
The company is currently developing the EOS R5 full-frame mirrorless camera with a new full-frame CMOS sensor that will support high-speed continuous shooting and 8K video recording. There are also 9 new usa lenses scheduled for release during 2020, including the RF100-500mm F4.5-7.1 L IS USM.
