Canon EOS DSLR reviews

Launched three years ago, Canon’s flagship has yet to concede the top of the proprietary Olympus to anyone. Full frame resolution of 18 megapixel sensor is not a record, but the image quality is impeccable and the focusing and shooting speed is unprecedented for cameras with a moving mirror – 12 fps with autofocus and 14 fps with a locked mirror.

Canon EOS 5D Mark III

The third reincarnation of the legendary “five” for the first time for this class has received full professional status – unlike the predecessors suffering from slow autofocus and low speed shooting, “the third Mark” has the same system of autofocus as EOS-1X the first case in history when autofocus “unity” is applied in the younger model . Accordingly, the unit can shoot at a respectable 6 fps, and the autofocus speed is far superior to its predecessors. And if the unity is a reporter’s dream, the 5D Mark III is more versatile, less expensive and much lighter and more compact. Resolution is the highest among Canon DSLRs, that’s why we test the optics with it. Maximum sensitivity: up to 102,400 ISO. In-camera aberration correction, HDR shooting, multiple exposures and more.

Canon EOS 6D

The sixth model is designed for photographers who do not need special speed, but appreciate the image quality, as well as the lightness and compactness. The EOS 6D outperforms the 5D Mark II in high-sensitivity image quality and only slightly behind the 5D Mark III in resolution. The “six” has an interesting autofocus system, designed to provide the most in a tight budget: it has only 11 points, and cross only one, central, but it can boast the highest sensitivity in the brand line – to -3 EV. The EOS 6D even surpasses the “third Mark” in dynamic range and low noise. The model has all chances to appeal to the landscape photographer and the traveler because of all-weather protection of the case, lightness and compactness, as well as built-in Wi-Fi, GPS and an electronic level.

Canon’s two-digit models are for discerning and demanding amateurs. EOS 70D provides full control over the shooting process and has a very decent speed, and a durable casing with all-weather protection guarantees the survivability of the camera in harsh conditions. Professional autofocus system in EOS 70D is borrowed from EOS 7D, at the same time 70D has got all the best from amateur class cameras: swiveling LCD touch screen, impressive set of digital creative filters. The 70D incorporates a dual-pixel CMOS autofocus sensor for fast, accurate focusing in movie and Live View mode. Please note that the capabilities of the new sensor are fully realized only when using lenses from the new STM series with a stepper motor.

Canon EOS 650D

The EOS 700D, released less than a year after the EOS 650D, can be seen as a minor upgrade of its predecessor. These popular amateur models are virtually identical, the only differences being the ability to view creative filter effects in real time on the LCD monitor with the 700D and the fine detail in the body. Main components of the construction: sensor, processor, autofocus system, LCD screen – the same in both models. The cameras are distinguished by their compactness, ease of intuitive operation, allowing even a beginner to easily master the transition to the “mirror” class. The swivel-touch screen plays a major role here, although traditional push-button controls remain intact. Latest hybrid autofocus combined with STM-series lenses for fast and accurate autofocus in movie and Live View mode.

Canon EOS 600D

Since the release EOS 600D formally changed the third generation of amateur cameras Canon, but if you look at the root, it turns out that this kaleidoscope, arranged only a little over three years, is not so much caused by rapid progress as the banal marketing. Progress, of course, also took place, but if you can do without quick focus in Live View mode and tolerate a little more noticeable noise at high sensitivity, then the choice of EOS 600D can save a lot of money. In fact, the technology embodied in it is not so outdated, it has almost everything that a demanding amateur needs: excellent image quality with high detail 18 MP , large and easy to swivel LCD screen, the ability to shoot Full HD video with manual adjustment. There are digital image optimisation functions, and creative filters, and prompting.

Canon EOS 100D

The fact that the EOS 100D stands apart in Canon’s lineup is noticeable already by its index: it is not a continuation of the established three-digit series and is not part of the two-digit. It’s really an attempt to answer the main challenge of mirrorless cameras – their compactness. In size the EOS 100D is not much bigger than an advanced mirror-less camera, but in substance it is the newest model EOS 700D, only much smaller. Combines the key features of DSLR cameras, namely a full-fledged optical viewfinder and focusing speed, with the miniaturization of mirror-less competitors. Camera fits comfortably in your hand and is comfortable to operate. True, the rotation of the screen had to be sacrificed – in contrast to other amateur models Canon it is fixed. But touch control is preserved, along with all the traditional buttons and dials. Fully identical to the Canon EOS 700D in terms of photographic performance.

Canon EOS 1100D

Canon’s four-digit models are the latest in the brand lineup, and represent a clever approach to economy. The company is well aware that the first, most important introduction to Canon products happens most often in the budget class, and they pay close attention to it. These models use time-tested, well-proven components from previous designs. The EOS 1200D is strikingly similar to the very successful 550D released in 2010, only it has a simpler LCD screen and viewfinder, and the sound in video clips is monophonic. That said, its specs are quite convincing: 18MP sensor resolution, full HD video capture, high-quality LCD screen. The main advantage of the EOS 1200D is, of course, the price. Both models have a good set of digital image optimization tools and comfortable, intuitive operation.
