In developing the key components of the imaging system used in the EOS interchangeable lens camera series – CMOS sensors, image processors and lenses – Canon is guided by the basic principle of “Speed, Convenience and High Image Quality. From flagship cameras trusted by professionals to entry-level models that deliver high image quality with easy operation, Canon is responsive to the needs of a wide range of consumers.
In 2003, when digital SLR cameras were just appearing, Canon created a revolutionary model – the EOS 300D. This uniquely affordable, compact and lightweight camera has become the best-selling camera in the global market, laying the groundwork for growth in the interchangeable-lens digital SLR segment. Since then, Canon has continued to introduce innovative products, including the EOS-1D and EOS 5D professional series, which paved the way for digital SLR cameras to enter the world of video.
In March 2018, Canon introduced the EOS M50 mirrorless camera and the EOS 2000D digital SLR, with which beginners can capture professional-level images. By continually expanding its product portfolio, Canon has solidified its leadership position in the global market and in 2018.
In September 2018, in an effort to reach new heights in visual imaging, Canon launched the EOS R mirrorless camera with a full-frame sensor as part of the new EOS R system, which uses an innovative lens mount. And in February 2019, Canon unveiled the EOS RP, a compact, lightweight and practical full-frame mirrorless camera with impressive image quality, and announced six new usa lenses, still in development, as part of the EOS R expansion.
Canon will continue to improve and expand the imaging experience based on its proprietary optical technologies, developing the EOS system to meet the needs of a wide variety of consumers and fostering a growing culture of photography and video.
Alessandro Stanzani, executive vice president of imaging technology group Canon EMEA, commented: “In addition to having the largest market share, Canon also retained the leadership in terms of both number and value of products sold in the digital camera segment of the EMEA market. We continue to raise the bar for optical innovation, and our successes have confirmed the demand for new technologies and imaging systems.
