By SIO, we mean Sharp: new 60-inch TV brand promises to cut prices by half on the TV market

Sharp and Foxconn are getting ready to release 60-inch TVs under a new brand. DigiTimes reports based on industry sources in Taiwan that the first batch of new devices will hit the market by the end of this month.

The panels for the new LCD TVs will be manufactured at Sharp’s 10G facility, and the sets themselves will be marketed under the new SIO brand. Despite the large diagonal, the new 60-inch TVs will be quite affordable.

They are expected to cost about $1,000 in the U.S., $1,265 in China, and about $1,300 in Taiwan. Although the first SIO TV sets are expected to hit the market by the end of October, they will not be ready for mass production until the beginning of next year.

According to experts, the appearance of new Foxconn and Sharp TVs will have a very favorable effect on the LCD-devices market, as many well-known manufacturers will have to reduce the price of their models with small relatively 60-inch diagonals of 32-42 inches. Of course, the prices of 60-inch models of LG Electronics and Samsung, which will now have to compete with the new, serious player.
